Palm Springs, CA (The Hollywood Times) 3/13/26 – Palm Springs is known for sunshine, swimming pools, and unforgettable parties, and when Desert Legends Women’s Weekend returns April 2–5, 2026, one of the weekend’s most anticipated highlights will once again be the electrifying sounds of Modgirl.
The beloved Palm Springs DJ returns to spin the soundtrack for the Desert Legends Pool Party at Hotel Zoso on Saturday, April 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., bringing her signature blend of disco, house, and nostalgic dance favorites to the desert.
Last year, Modgirl made such an impression during the Desert Legends meet-and-greet that the crowd literally passed the hat to keep her playing for an extra hour.
“I had an encore, an hour-long encore,” Modgirl laughed during our recent Zoom interview. “That was so much fun. Desert Legends is incredible. It’s like a family reunion and a full-throttle dance party all at the same time.”
As co-producer of Desert Legends, I can confirm when Modgirl spins, the dance floor fills.
Modgirl approaches DJing almost like a science, mixed with a bit of intuition.
“Sometimes I feel like a doctor prescribing music,” she explained. “I watch the people on the dance floor or around the pool and think about what songs they would love. I try to read the room and create the right vibe.”
That instinct has made her a favorite on the Palm Springs party circuit. Her musical style spans genres, from disco and house to Motown, jazz, rock, and pop; but she says every great track share two qualities.
“It has to have a great baseline,” she said. “And it has to be happy. Music should be joyful. Especially right now when the world feels uncertain coming together and experiencing joy for a few hours is really powerful.”
The Desert Legends pool party is designed to be an all-day celebration filled with games, dancing, and community. Guests will enjoy activities including cornhole tournaments, pool beer pong, a golf challenge, and even a rainbow rubber duck race.
For MODGIRL, that playful atmosphere opens the door to creativity.
“When it’s a fun environment like that, I get to be a little nostalgic, a little ironic, even a little silly,” she said. “I’m kind of a prankster, so you never know what might happen musically.”
The day’s soundtrack will likely include remixed favorites from multiple decades.
“I love Janet Jackson, Madonna, Sylvester, those kinds of artists,” she said. “Music from the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s, and 2000s that people recognize, but with a fresh spin.”
And of course, there will be sing-along moments.
“Sometimes it’s about everyone singing together,” she said. “Those moments connect people instantly.”
Although MODGIRL performs all over, Palm Springs holds a special place in her heart.
“When I moved here, I had no idea how social it was,” she said. “There are so many events and people are really ready to celebrate life. Palm Springs has its own energy, its architecture, its pools, its lifestyle.”
That carefree spirit makes it the perfect setting for Desert Legends, which brings together women from across the country for four days of sports, music, comedy, wellness, and community.
“Everyone leads with their heart at Desert Legends,” MODGIRL said. “Creating the soundtrack for that kind of connection is really special.”
In addition to her Desert Legends performances, MODGIRL hosts a weekly radio show on KGAY 103.1 Palm Springs.
“Every Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. I do a tea dance,” she explained. “It’s two hours of really happy, funky house music and disco. And you can stream it anywhere in the world.”
She hopes to bring some of that global energy back to the desert after recently DJing on an LGBTQ+ Caribbean cruise.
“That cruise vibe is definitely coming to Palm Springs,” she said.
The Desert Legends Pool Party takes place Saturday, April 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hotel Zoso in Palm Springs.
Guests can lounge in VIP daybeds, jump in the pool or hot tub, enjoy food and drinks poolside, and dance all afternoon while MODGIRL keeps the party going.
“Who doesn’t love a Palm Springs pool party?” MODGIRL said with a smile. “We’re going to have a lot of fun.”
And if last year’s encore is any indication, the dance floor may once again refuse to let her stop.
