The holidays are upon us, and people typically look for something to read or watch in order to relax. After all, holidays can be restful, but also stressful. If you are looking for something to watch, I may have the documentary for you.

COLOR in Nature is the next chapter in Alteronce Gumby’s ongoing exploration of color—expanding the conversation beyond celebration, culture, and perception into the elemental forces of the natural world. From the glaciers of Iceland and the Rainbow Mountains of Peru to the jungles of Vietnam, the dye pits of Nigeria, and the butterfly sanctuaries of Mexico, the film traces how color emerges through climate, chemistry, light, and living systems—revealed in ice, soil, trees, animals, fabrics, and atmosphere.
ABOUT ALTERONCE GUMBY: Gumby is a New York abstract painter whose work centers on color as material, metaphor and cultural language. His work is in the collections of the National Gallery of Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Hirshhorn, LACMA, The Studio Museum in Harlem and Pérez Art Museum Miami, among others. He has had solo exhibitions at Nicola Vassell Gallery (“Prince of the Far Rainbow,” 2024; “The Color of Everything,” 2022) and Jeffrey Deitch (“Walk on the Moon,” 2025), and he received the 2026 Hopper Prize and a 2025 Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant. He holds an MFA from the Yale School of Art. Gumby presents a new body of work, eight paintings and three sculptures at Art Basel Paris (Oct. 21–26), Booth A48, in a joint presentation by the Michael Rosenfeld Gallery and Jeffrey Deitch.
