Gregory Allen Jackson delivers an inspired performance as the lead antagonist, bringing passion, presence and considerable theatrical skill to Screwtape. He is largely responsible for making this such a “pithy” production, as one audience member aptly described it during the discussion afterward.
Toadpipe is an energetic role requiring both comedic flair and remarkable physicality. Tamala Bakkensen rises to the challenge with an animated and athletic performance. Anna Reichert alternates in the role.
This touring production from Fellowship for Performing Arts is directed by Max McLean, who originated the lead role.
The staging is simple yet highly effective, with lighting and scenic elements used creatively to bring Screwtape’s sinister world to life. The stylized period costumes add another colorful and distinctive visual dimension.
