Lawyer turned storyteller, David De Pierro is an unlikely media personality. The New Jersey attorney’s debut novel “The Letters I Never Sent” is a confronting novel about learning how to let go of past loves.

De Pierro is touring with his book, and is set to appear at the El Rey Theater, Los Angeles, Sunday October 11, having made a sold-out appearance at the Scherr Forum Theatre in Thousand Oaks, after Denver, and now other US cities and Canada.

Two -thirds of the audience  were women, who clearly knew of his dating stories and emotional reflections in online videos that have gone viral. The woman sitting next to me  audibly agreed with the man in the suit who moved from one side of the stage to the other, and seemed most comfortable sitting in an armchair reading questions from his followers.

The advertised open Q & A with the audience didn’t take place, which was disappointing, but understandable in the interests of time.

The New Jersey native, a “half Italian, half Jersey boy” turned social media sensation who is “betting it all on God, love and grief” delivered a laconic monologue.   Actually, his bent is more aligned to loss.  As was made clear in his selection of readings from his book.  His comedic style is like a young version of Woody Allen, but better looking, apologetic, psychological- and droll.

His take on human emotions is a tonic. Relatable and raw.

De Pierro has managed to build a devoted online following of more than 6 million followers on Instagram and Tik Tok, commenting on dating, personal growth and modern living.

He said if his tour didn’t work out, he could go back to the job he hates (in the law office owned by his father.

The audiobook of “The Letters I Never Sent” is on Audible.com and the book is to be released in December.
