Palm Springs LGBTQ+ Film Festival Honors Outstanding Features, Documentaries, Shorts and Web Series in Its 19th Year

Palm Springs, CA (The Hollywood Times) 10/11/26 – Cinema Diverse: The Palm Springs LGBTQ+ Film Festival has announced its 2026 Festival Favorites and Director’s Choice Awards, recognizing an impressive collection of films and filmmakers whose storytelling, creativity and artistic vision made an impact during this year’s festival.

Presented by the Palm Springs Cultural Center, the 19th annual Cinema Diverse took place September 17–20 and September 24–27, bringing together LGBTQ+ filmmakers, industry professionals and movie lovers for two weekends celebrating queer cinema.

As a media partner of Cinema Diverse, The Hollywood Times is pleased to recognize the filmmakers and creative teams whose work continues to elevate LGBTQ+ voices and bring meaningful stories to audiences around the world.

The festival’s annual awards reflect two distinct perspectives: the Festival Favorites, selected by audiences, and the Director’s Choice Awards, personally chosen by Festival Director Michael C. Green.

Together, the honors recognize a diverse selection of feature films, documentaries, shorts and web series exploring themes of identity, love, family, resilience, history and community.

Among the notable films recognized as Festival Favorites were Mineshaft: The Cruising Murders, Karen Williams: I Had to Laugh, Miss Personality, The Queerdos, Surviving Voices: AIDS Caregivers, Julian, Barefoot Boy, Punkie and Love Loaded.

The selections highlight the remarkable range of filmmaking represented at this year’s festival, from intimate personal stories and historical documentaries to comedy, romance and thought-provoking dramas.

Short films and web series also received considerable recognition, with audience favorites including Find Another Girl to Fix, Redlining, Pole Are Opposites, Lesbians in Boystown, Dragon Problems, Pismo Beach and Welcome to Tool Shed.

These shorter works continue to demonstrate the importance of providing emerging and established filmmakers with opportunities to share distinctive perspectives and experimental storytelling.

In addition to the audience-selected honors, Cinema Diverse presented its Director’s Choice Awards, recognizing films distinguished by their storytelling, creativity and cultural significance.

Selected by Festival Director Michael C. Green, the awards included feature films such as A Taste of Heaven: The Ecstatic Song & Gospel of Maestro Raymond Anthony, Mickey and Richard, Pieces of Lilo, Proud Jewish Boy, Tiger and Uncle Roy.

Several films received recognition in both award categories, including Karen Williams: I Had to Laugh, Mineshaft: The Cruising Murders, Julian and Surviving Voices: AIDS Caregivers.

Short-form projects receiving Director’s Choice recognition included Redlining, Lesbians in Boystown, Open All Night, Ronita Rambo, Size Queens and Welcome to Tool Shed.

“We are always inspired by the talent, storytelling, and innovation we see in LGBTQ+ filmmakers,” said Green. “The Director’s Choice Awards allow us to shine an additional spotlight on work that moved us deeply, surprised us, and/or brought new perspectives to the forefront. Coupled with our audience awards, they reflect the heart and soul of the festival.”

For nearly two decades, Cinema Diverse has provided an important platform for LGBTQ+ filmmakers, offering audiences opportunities to discover new talent, experience diverse perspectives and engage in conversations inspired by cinema.

The annual festival has also helped strengthen Palm Springs’ reputation as a welcoming destination for LGBTQ+ arts, culture and entertainment.

As conversations surrounding representation and equality continue, festivals such as Cinema Diverse remain vital in ensuring that LGBTQ+ stories are seen, heard and celebrated.

The Hollywood Times congratulates all of the 2026 Festival Favorites and Director’s Choice Award recipients, along with the organizers, filmmakers, volunteers and audiences who helped make the festival another memorable celebration of independent cinema.
