With a unity of creative talents, enter the musical ministry of Rick Cowling and Sherry Hursey. The striking duo, equally with impressive backgrounds in music and performing, are set to debut a meaningful new masterwork. Crafted for almost a decade, Rick Cowling and Sherry Hursey’s new CD “Angels and Butterflies” is set to be released on November 30. Very meaningful and personal to Sherry in her personal journey.
These complementing counterparts, Sherry – an ordained minister who serves as the spiritual leader for Unity of the Oaks, Thousand Oaks, is also an award-winning actress, vocalist and writer/producer. Sherry played Illene on TV’s hit show “Home Improvement” and was Kirsten Dunst’s mother in Universal’s “Bring It On.” She also wrote and co-starred in “Lilly’s Light: The Movie,” an ambitious passion project, near and dear to her heart.
Rick Cowling wears many hats. Music and Audio Visual Director for Unity of the Oaks, he was Kenny Loggins’ guitarist and lead singer and keyboardist for Ambrosia. As well as rock star singing pharmacist on “Modern Family.”
Despite their accomplishments, Rick Cowling and Sherry Hursey are down-to-earth and approachable. And light up the room.
How did I discover this duo? After an “Artist Way” class based on Julia Cameron’s book, held at Angels and Acorns, Unity of the Oaks’ boutique, down the hall from the Sunday sanctuary. Rick and Sherry shared the project, treating us to a preview of the pending album and launch plan.
The album launch will be at Tarantula Hill Brewery, a stone’s throw from the church.
