I’m going to be honest: I had no idea who Kim Petras was before I saw her live at Outloud Weho Pride, but now I’m a fan.

A wooden crate with the words “Mail Order Bride” printed on it was carried onto the stage. As a countdown began, smoke filled the air, and everyone pulled out their phones. The countdown started: 10, 9, 8… the lights were strobing, and you could feel the anticipation building. When it reached 7, 6, 5, 4, the beeps grew closer together, and when the countdown hit zero, “Kim Petras” lit up the stage as the box sprang open. She emerged like a Barbie, and her song began to play: “I Don’t Want It At All.” The crowd sang along, knowing every single word. I felt left out, but the song is incredibly catchy and has been stuck in my head ever since.

Kim has a knack for creating pop songs that are both catchy and a bit ironic. I especially love this one; it’s super bratty. Last year, everyone was talking about “Brat Summer,” but that song isn’t bratty. The lyric “If I can’t get it right now, then I don’t want it at all” is the brattiest line ever. I feel like I was living under a rock seven years ago when it first came out.

She rocked the night, even though I think she was performing with a broken foot or leg. She danced her heart out! Not only is she an incredible singer and performer, but she also incorporates a digital presentation with live filters and special effects. She brings all the bells and whistles, making it a great time. Her music is catchy, danceable, and I can’t wait to see her again. I’m officially an instant fan!
