American country-rock legends and Kentucky Music Hall of Fame inductees Exile are remembering their friend Dolly Parton, sharing a heartfelt tribute following the passing of the beloved entertainer, songwriter, philanthropist, and cultural icon.
Exile’s connection with Parton spanned decades, from appearing on her television variety series to performing at Dollywood, where Parton would occasionally visit the band backstage. Those moments left a lasting impression on the members of Exile, who remember not only the extraordinary artist the world knew, but also the warmth, humor and generosity of the woman they were privileged to know personally.
“She may have been short in stature, but she was larger than life. She did so much to bring light to the world. Her philanthropy, her books for children, her support for causes she believed in and her self-deprecating humor were all classic Dolly. Her music inspired young women to believe that they, too, could stand on that stage and sing their truth.
“On occasion, we were privileged to spend time with her, from appearing on her television show to having her come backstage to greet us during our appearances at Dollywood.
