Theyyy’re Baaack! The World’s Only Vulva Gala Returns This August
The School of Sexuality’s Vulva Gala Festival returns August 15th, 2026, now at the First Congregational Church of Long Beach. Presented by the School of Sexuality Project, a community-driven nonprofit founded by Bridgett K., this annual celebration is a grassroots revolution that has helped initiate more positive and impactful conversations around bodily autonomy, identity, and sex education.
The School of Sexuality uses creativity, community learning, and performance to challenge stigma, center joy, and celebrate bodies.
We had so much fun and were so inspired at the first Vulva Gala Festival in 2024, going home with memories and souvenirs that will last a lifetime, that this year, I (Alex Banx) will be one of the designers sending my own passionately designed vulva werking down the runway.
The Church?
Holding the festival inside a church is an intentional choice. While a traditional faith- based space seems like the last place vulvas would be celebrated, that is exactly why this venue is important. The event transforms The First Congregational Church of Long Beach into a space for body-centered art, education, and healing. Shifting the environment’s attention away from religious worship invites honest reflection on how countless institutions of power continue to shape our relationships with our bodies, creating a collective space to address both historical harm and personal healing.
What Happens At The Vulva Gala?
-
- The Fashion Show: This is the heart of the Vulva Gala, the runway. It’s what brings us together. Local artists showcase their originally designed wearable power vulvas, brought to life by a diverse array of vulva-positive models. These wearable art pieces are later put up for auction to directly support the School of Sexuality Project’s ongoing mission. Money raised from the auction helps fund their K-12 sex education curriculum and specialized workshops, providing inclusive, trauma-informed resources directly to parents, teachers, college students, and the general public.
- Performances: A lineup of live music, drag performances, comedy, and poetry designed to connect community, queer joy, and body liberation.
- Queer BIPOC Local Vendor Market
- Community Panels & Resources
The Vulva Gala’s Talent Lineup challenges social norms and centers diverse interpretations of gender through storytelling, conversation, and by authentically existing.
