Palm Springs, CA (The Hollywood Times) 4/25/26 – The first day of the Palm Springs Big Gay BBQ fired up in full force, delivering exactly what you’d expect, and more, from one of the desert’s most joyful and inclusive celebrations. As official media partners, The Hollywood Times was on the ground capturing the energy, the flavor, and the heart of this vibrant Pride gathering.
From the moment the streets closed and the music kicked in, the atmosphere felt electric. Rainbow flags lined the roads, crowds flowed from booth to booth, and cocktails were very much part of the experience; yes, you can sip as you stroll, which only adds to the carefree, festive vibe.
We caught up with Ronaldo from KGAY 103.1, who was quick to offer a tip for first timers, with a laugh and a wink.
“Get your cocktails first,” he said. “That’s the most important thing! Don’t worry about the food, you’ll get to it and then you won’t worry about the high price of it.”
It’s advice worth taking, especially with so many delicious options filling the air with smoky, mouthwatering aromas. Whether you’re craving classic barbecue or something a bit more modern and plant-based, there’s no shortage of choices.
Ronaldo shared that the Big Gay BBQ has been around for about four years, created as a way to support Pride while keeping things accessible.
“We are the only Pride Day that’s actually free,” he explained. “Everything is expensive these days, so we try to keep this going for the community.”

That accessibility is part of what makes the event so special. It’s not just a party, it’s a welcoming space where everyone can show up, celebrate, and feel included without barriers.
And then there are the moments that make you smile. Like the colorful cow mascot, a playful, on-theme character that quickly became a crowd favorite.
“When I first got here, the cow was laying down,” Ronaldo joked. “I thought the cow was already drunk!”
Soon enough, the cow was back on all four feet, posing for photos and delighting festivalgoers of all ages.
Even the smallest details carried personality. Ronaldo showed off KGAY’s signature stickers, from classic black-and-white designs to bright rainbow versions.
“They smell like stickers,” he said with a grin, clearly amused by the simple joy of it.
It’s that mix of humor, heart, and community spirit that defines the Palm Springs Big Gay BBQ. It’s not just about great food or good music, it’s about connection, celebration, and creating a space where everyone belongs.
As day one comes to a close, the energy shows no signs of slowing down. If today is any indication, this year’s Big Gay BBQ is shaping up to be one of the most memorable yet.
And if you’re heading out tomorrow, remember Ronaldo’s advice, cocktails first.
