VIP Reception

Hollywood, CA (The Hollywood Times) 6/21/25 – Last night, June 20, 2025, the Coalition for Clean Air (CCA) hosted its much‑anticipated California Air Quality Awards at the iconic Yamashiro Hollywood—an evening that united environmental champions, public leaders, and climate advocates under one glittering roof.

Yamashiro Hollywood—perched atop the Hollywood Hills—served as an elegant backdrop, blending historic charm with sweeping views of the city below. From 5 pm to 7 pm, attendees gathered on the terrace to mingle, enjoyed sunset hues, and savor sustainably inspired hors d’oeuvres and cocktails honoring California’s air and climate warriors.

The evening spotlighted individuals whose leadership has shaped the state’s clean-air landscape:

Maryalice Prescott and Senator Caroline Menjivar
  • Senator Caroline Menjivar was recognized for her advocacy on air quality and climate policy.

  • LA County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath was honored for driving regional clean air initiatives.

Both exemplify the power of shared governance and commitment in creating healthier environments for California residents.

Ed Begley Jr.

One of the evening’s notable segments celebrated business leaders contributing to cleaner air from within the corporate sector. Although specific corporate honorees weren’t named in initial releases, their recognition underscores the vital role that businesses play in advancing sustainability.

Despite progress, the Golden State continues to wrestle with air quality issues stemming from wildfires, urban emissions, and climate-driven weather changes. The CCA Awards serve both to applaud real progress and to highlight areas in need of improvement—especially in supporting frontline communities most affected by poor air quality.

Beyond the awards, Yamashiro provided a unique atmosphere for cross-sector networking—where legislators, environmental experts, and corporate leaders could forge partnerships and exchange strategies to accelerate clean-air policy implementation.

Hosting the awards at Yamashiro Hollywood was fitting not just for its panoramic vistas, but for its resilience—having supported wildfire relief earlier this year by feeding firefighters and affected residents. Last night’s celebration underscored Yamashiro’s evolving role as a nexus of community, culture, and environmental stewardship.

  • Policy Momentum: The honorees’ platforms and influence can help drive stricter emissions standards, better wildfire preparedness, and equitable access to clean-air resources.

  • Private-Sector Action: Businesses, now prominently recognized, are positioned to invest in clean technology, sustainable operations, and climate-conscious innovation.

  • Public Engagement: Events like this amplify public awareness and encourage civic involvement—crucial for maintaining advocacy momentum and ensuring government accountability.

Last night’s California Air Quality Awards at Yamashiro Hollywood was more than a ceremony—it was a celebration of collective action. By elevating government leaders, business innovators, and community influencers, the Coalition reaffirmed that safeguarding California’s air is a shared mission. With inspiring honorees, meaningful connections made, and a sense of purpose renewed, the event sets a hopeful tone as the state continues its journey toward cleaner, healthier skies.

Last night’s event was especially meaningful thanks to Dr. Joseph Lyou, President and CEO of the Coalition for Clean Air. A dedicated and passionate advocate for environmental causes for over 30 years, Dr. Lyou truly stood out and inspired all in attendance.
