Here’s a Look at the Week of Jan 19, 2026 🌴 Gay Desert Guide & KGAY

We have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to our ability to stay healthy and exercise while living in the Coachella Valley.

Whether it’s the “pop, pop, pop, pop” of a pickleball being hit, a hike in the Indian Canyons, a bike on CV Link or a morning workout in the park, our climate is conducive for healthy living.

This weekend’s Health Run and Wellness Festival in Ruth Hardy Park on Saturday might just broaden your horizons.  This annual event offers a chance to explore various fitness options and learn how to lead a more positive lifestyle.

My exercise “drug of choice” has been classes from our local Club Pilates franchise.  Over the past 4+ years, I’ve participated in a few hundred of them.  It started on my birthday in 2021 and has been the most consistent workout I’ve done in my life outside of a community Yoga class at the Ace Hotel that I used to love.  The gym is just not for me.

We’ll be at the festival this Saturday, so stop by!  I will be perusing the other booths looking for some other “healthy choices” for the new year.  Pickleball is not a likely candidate: my doctor highly advises against it due to the number of injuries he’s seeing.  But maybe I’ll find something to pique my interest and add to my routine.

P.S.  If you get the opportunity, see “Eureka Day” at Dezart Performs.  The funniest scene is where parents are online for a school board meeting.  It shows a stream of online comments being projected behind them.  It’s like seeing a live stream of the comments in a controversial “Gay Men of Palm Springs” Facebook thread!

I Do! or the sharp, award-winning satire Eureka Day. In sports: The American Express PGA Tour is bringing world-class golf and weekend concerts featuring Old Dominion and OneRepublic.

On Friday & Saturday, Singer/Songwriter Chadwick Johnson returns to the Purple Room to celebrate the music of legendary icons Burt Bacharach and Quincy Jones. Also this Weekend: Catch the west coast premiere of the cheeky musical Camp Morning Wood, the world premiere of the artistic drama Dispersion of Light, or the high-energy backstage comedy Neil Simon’s Laughter on the 23rd Floor. If you’re looking for more variety, the Southwest Arts Festival begins its three-day run, the Jussen Brothers Piano Duo brings their “telepathic” artistry to the stage, and the provocative musical Assassins continues. Friday through Sunday, the Desert Open Studios Tour offers a self-guided weekend exploration of the valley’s artistic heart.

Saturday offers everything from the Palm Springs Health Run & Wellness Festival and Singing the Birds: Bird Song and Dance Festival to the glamorous Art Party 2026 – Honoring Bob Mackie. You can also groove with The Whispers / Morris Day & The Time, enjoy the Coachella Valley Symphony: Best of Stage & Screen, or experience Alan Cumming: UNCUT.
