Ed Roland of Collective Soul

Alternative rock band Collective Soul put on a great concert Friday night providing excellent renditions of their songs as well as story-telling. Much humor was shared back and forth between band members especially between brothers lead singer Ed Roland and rhythm guitarist Dean Roland.

The audience was treated to a great surprise when desert dweller and legendary singer Mickey Thomas (Jefferson Starship, Starship) joined the band. Ed requested Mickey sing “Fooled Around and Fell in Love” and Mickey sang a few bars a cappella before being joined by the band. Ed shared with the audience the band’s admiration for Mickey. Thomas returned the kind words with thoughtful comments of his own on the friendship he has established with the band members.

The audience so loved the band’s biggest hit “Shine” that the audience sing-along continued into a second singing of this great 1990s anthem. Other songs performed this night included: “Counting The Days”, “Heavy”, “Mothers Love”, “Why Pt. 2”, “Keep It on Track”, “She Said”, “World I Know”, “December”, “Tremble for My Beloved”, “Gel”, “Where The River Flows”, “Run”.

I was honored to have my photos of the band included in their amazing documentary Give Me A Word – The Collective Soul Story. Check out the DVD and more at https://collectivesoul.com/
