For 56 years, Christopher Street West (CSW), the nonprofit organization behind LA Pride, has remained a driving force in advancing visibility, advocacy, and celebration for the LGBTQIA+ community. As the producer of the world’s first permitted Pride parade, CSW continues to honor its historic roots while evolving to meet the needs of new generations.

Leading up to the 56th Annual LA Pride Parade and Pride Village, which took place on June 14 in the heart of Hollywood, CSW transformed Pride Month into a citywide celebration through a series of community-centered events spanning sports, film, theater, nightlife, youth leadership, and cultural engagement.

This year’s theme, “Rise with Pride,” reflected both the resilience of the LGBTQIA+ community and the organization’s commitment to carrying the movement forward.

“LA Pride has always been about creating spaces where our community can come together in celebration, solidarity, and visibility,” said Lawrence Carroll, President of Christopher Street West Association and LA Pride.

Throughout June, Angelenos had the opportunity to celebrate Pride in a variety of ways. Festivities included LGBTQ+ Night at Dodger Stadium, LA Pride Night with the Los Angeles Sparks, a special Pride Night performance of Hell’s Kitchen at the Pantages Theatre, the LA Pride Skate Party, and a 30th anniversary screening of the beloved LGBTQ+ classic The Birdcage.

These events served as a reminder that Pride extends beyond a single day or parade route. Instead, it lives throughout Los Angeles in its neighborhoods, cultural institutions, sports arenas, and community gathering spaces.

During an interview with The Hollywood Times, Lawrence Carroll (President of Christopher Street West/LA Pride) reflected on the significance of Christopher Street West’s enduring legacy.

“Christopher Street West represents history,” Carroll explained. “We organized the world’s first permitted Pride parade, and we continue to build on that legacy while reflecting the needs of our community today.”

As conversations surrounding equality, representation, and inclusion continue to evolve, CSW remains focused on ensuring Pride remains both a celebration and a platform for advocacy.

This year’s “Rise with Pride” theme encouraged participants to recognize the progress made while continuing the work necessary to support future generations.

A Festival Experience Rooted in Community

When asked what attendees could expect from this year’s LA Pride Parade and Village, Carroll emphasized community engagement and accessibility.

“We wanted to create a festival vibe that encourages people to come together, celebrate, and connect,” he said.

The free Pride Village featured live entertainment, local businesses, nonprofit organizations, food vendors, community activations, and cultural programming showcasing the diversity of Los Angeles’ LGBTQIA+ community.

Among the highlights were performances by Bentley Robles, Princess Superstar, Cassidy King, Nekeith, CANDIACE, Amber Ryann, and the Trans Chorus of Los Angeles. Attendees also enjoyed special programming including the LA Pride Ball presented by the legendary House of Ninja, Preciosa Night celebrating queer Latinx culture, and appearances from the cast of King of Drag.

CSW also expanded its digital footprint this year, encouraging supporters around the world to tune in through LA Pride’s social media platforms and engage with the celebration virtually.

New Traditions and Historic Moments

One of the most unique additions to this year’s festivities was the opportunity for couples to get married during LA Pride through a special one-day marriage initiative hosted in partnership with Los Angeles County.

For many couples, it was a chance to celebrate their love while participating in one of the nation’s most historic Pride events.

Carroll noted that first-time attendees should recognize the significance of the experience.

“Newcomers should know they’re experiencing history,” he said. “They’re becoming part of something much larger than themselves and helping keep the Pride movement going.”

Love Conquers All

As Pride Month continues, Carroll hopes the message of unity resonates far beyond June.

“We are all in this together,” he said. “Love conquers all.”

That spirit of inclusion, resilience, and collective support remains at the heart of Christopher Street West’s mission.

As thousands gathered in Hollywood for the parade and Pride Village on June 14, one thing was clear: LA Pride remains more than an event—it is a movement, a celebration of identity, and a reminder that visibility, community, and love continue to shape the future of Los Angeles and beyond.
