Los Angeles, CA (The Hollywood Times) 06/15/2026 – Breakfast at Berghain is an artistic film that explores themes of rebellion and the struggle against antiquated societal norms. The narrative centers on a teen girl named Rosie, portrayed by Dominique Booth, who aspires to escape her small-town life and her chaotic family dynamic. The film opens with Rose in a nightgown on the ground, symbolizing her constrained position within her patriarchal family structure, reminiscent of a modern-day Cinderella.

Throughout the film, Rosie’s family members are depicted in a manner that evokes a 1960s sitcom aesthetic, highlighting their disregard for her. They are waiting for the arrival of her brother’s friend, who shares stories of his travels, particularly to Berghain, a renowned German nightclub celebrated for its vibrant nightlife and drug culture. This conversation ignites a spark of hope in Rosie, who dreams of experiencing life beyond her stifling environment.

The film’s stylization blurs the lines of time, making it difficult to pinpoint its exact setting whether it’s the 1960s, 1970s, 1990s, or contemporary rural Arkansas. Seeking an escape, Rosie retreats to the library, where, with the help of a librarian, she eventually finds her way to Berghain. The DJ at the club is represented in a whimsical manner, either as a dog or a puppet, adding to the surreal quality of the film.

Reminds me of the works of David Lynch and nostalgic visuals from old yearbooks and music videos by M83. Breakfast at Berghain engages viewers with its dreamlike narrative. The film is written and directed by Autumm Palen, with production led by Jordan Sarf, Frankie Campisano, and Steve Autore. The film intertwines elements of fantasy and reality, creating a unique exploration of personal liberation, self-discovery, and Girl power.

Breakfast at Berghain will screen at The 29th Annual Dances with Films Film Festival, Friday, June 19th at 11:45 PM at TCL Chinese Theaters in Los Angeles. for more info & Tickets please visit: https://danceswithfilms.com/2026-breakfast-at-berghain/
