Los Angeles, CA (The Hollywood Times) 8/27/24 – Acorn TV, the prestigious streaming platform celebrated for its premium British and International television, has just unveiled a tantalizing first look at its highly anticipated detective drama series, Ellis. The series features the esteemed Sharon D Clarke, a three-time Olivier Award winner and Tony Award nominee, whose outstanding performances have captivated audiences worldwide.
At the center of this compelling narrative is DCI Ellis, brought to life by Clarke. As a determined and resolute detective, Ellis navigates the challenges of a male-dominated field with grace and tenacity. Her role as a Black female detective in a predominantly male profession adds depth to her character, reflecting a powerful blend of professionalism and empathy.
Ellis promises a thrilling ride with its gripping premise. Each two-hour episode follows DCI Ellis, alongside her dependable colleague DS Harper (played by Andrew Gower of The Winter King, Carnival Row, and Outlander), as they tackle stalled investigations at different local police stations. Ellis must quickly gain the trust of skeptical local detectives and dive into complex cases, showcasing her exceptional investigative skills.
The series is a collaborative effort featuring a talented ensemble of industry professionals. Commissioned for Acorn TV by Catherine Mackin, Managing Director of Acorn Media Enterprises (AME), who also serves as an Executive Producer alongside Bea Tammer, AME’s Director of Development. The series was ordered for Channel 5 by Sebastian Cardwell, Deputy Chief Content Officer at Paramount UK, and Paul Testar, Commissioning Editor for Drama at Channel 5 and Paramount+.
The production team from Company Pictures, in association with Northern Ireland Screen, brings extensive experience to the project. Executive Producers Michele Buck and Lucy Raffety, Producer Chris Martin, and writers Paul Logue and Sian Ejiwunmi-Le Berre have meticulously crafted this riveting narrative, with international distribution managed by All3 Media International.
