Provincetown, Massachusetts (The Hollywood Times) 10/14/26 – There is something truly special about being surrounded by women who have come together from across the country to celebrate friendship, freedom, creativity, and community. On Tuesday evening, October 13, Provincetown’s historic Town Hall became the gathering place for one of the signature events of Women’s Week 2026: the annual Community Dinner & Performers Showcase.

Women’s Week is so much more than a collection of performances, parties, and social gatherings. It is a celebration of our history, our relationships, our artistic voices, and the extraordinary community that has grown around this beloved Cape Cod destination.
And the Community Dinner was a perfect reflection of that spirit.
The evening began at 6 p.m. with a traditional Cape Cod-style clambake, bringing guests together around dinner tables for an opportunity to connect, catch up with longtime friends, and make new ones.
The menu offered something for everyone, with choices including native New England lobster, grilled sirloin steak, barbecue chicken, and a vegetarian option featuring marinated tofu and seasonal vegetables.

The traditional meal was a fitting tribute to Provincetown’s coastal heritage and to the communal dinners that have long been part of Women’s Week.
But the evening was about much more than the food.
For many women, returning to Provincetown is like coming home. Friendships formed years or even decades ago are renewed, while first-time visitors discover a place where they can feel welcomed, celebrated, and free to be themselves.
Sitting together at the dinner was a reminder of the importance of preserving spaces where women can gather, share their experiences, and simply enjoy being part of something larger than themselves.
Following dinner, the evening transitioned into the Performers Showcase at approximately 7:30 p.m., offering attendees a taste of the entertainment that makes Women’s Week one of the most anticipated LGBTQ+ celebrations of the year.
The showcase was designed to spotlight the remarkable artistic talent appearing throughout the week, from comedy and music to storytelling and theatrical entertainment.

These artists represent generations of women who have used humor, music, and storytelling to entertain audiences, challenge stereotypes, and give voice to LGBTQ+ experiences.
The showcase provided a wonderful introduction to the week’s broader entertainment program, reminding attendees that laughter and artistic expression have always played important roles in building and sustaining community.
One of the most meaningful aspects of Women’s Week is its enduring history.
For decades, Provincetown has welcomed lesbian and LGBTQ+ women seeking connection, acceptance, and the freedom to celebrate their identities openly.
What began as a grassroots gathering has grown into a remarkable annual tradition, encompassing hundreds of events, performances, literary programs, social activities, and cultural celebrations.
The 2026 edition, taking place October 12–18, features more than 300 individual events, with additional programming beginning October 9.

Importantly, it also provides opportunities for women of different generations to learn from one another, share stories, and celebrate the progress made toward greater visibility and equality.
As a journalist who has spent years covering LGBTQ+ arts, entertainment, film festivals, and community organizations, I appreciate the significance of events that bring our community together in such a personal way.
There is a certain magic to Provincetown. It is found not only in the beautiful harbor views and charming streets, but in the conversations, friendships, and shared experiences that make this town feel like a home away from home.
Sisters, Friendship, and the Joy of Being Together
Traveling together, discovering Provincetown, meeting women from different backgrounds, and sharing in these celebrations are opportunities to create memories that extend far beyond a single evening.
The Community Dinner reminded me that some of the most meaningful moments happen when people simply take the time to gather around a table.
We may arrive from different cities, different backgrounds, and different stages of life, but there is something comforting about finding common ground through friendship, laughter, and the experience of belonging.
That sense of connection is what makes Women’s Week so remarkable.
As Women’s Week continues through October 18, attendees have opportunities to experience everything from live performances and comedy to film screenings, book discussions, social gatherings, and community celebrations.
The Community Dinner & Performers Showcase served as a fitting reminder of why these traditions matter.
They create opportunities for visibility, build connections between generations, support women artists, and help preserve the cultural history of a community that has worked hard to establish spaces of its own.
For Darlene and me, the evening was another chapter in our Provincetown adventure, one filled with community spirit and appreciation for the women who continue to make this celebration possible.
And perhaps that is the greatest gift of Women’s Week: the reminder that we are connected by far more than geography, age, or circumstance.
We are connected by our stories, our laughter, our resilience, and the friendships that bring us together.
That is something worth celebrating, not just during one special week in Provincetown, but every day.
