Inglewood, CA (The Hollywood Times) January 19, 2026 – The YouTube Theater in Inglewood was transformed into a sanctuary of soul on January 17, 2026, as Musiq Soulchild headlined an evening of rhythm and blues, supported by an exceptional lineup that included Teedra Moses, Kenyon Dixon, and Lalah Hathaway. From emerging voices to legendary performers, the night unfolded as a celebration of artistry, connection, and enduring power of live R&B music.

Kenyon Dixon opened the evening with a set that immediately established an intimate and mellow tone. His performance blended original songs with familiar R&B classics, creating a comforting and reflective atmosphere that eased the audience into the night. Dixon’s smooth vocals and laid-back delivery resonated throughout the theater, even as a brief technical issue caused his microphone to cut out momentarily. Rather than disrupting the momentum, the moment highlighted his professionalism, as he remained composed and continued to engage the crowd. One of the most memorable highlights of his set came when he surprised the audience by bringing out rapper D. Smoke, whose appearance added an unexpected burst of energy and bridged soulful R&B with contemporary hip-hop.
Between performances, the energy in the venue remained high during an interactive intermission that invited audience participation. A spokesperson took the stage and encouraged attendees to join a spontaneous singing competition, with the winner promised one hundred dollars. Several audience members eagerly stepped forward, showcasing impressive powerhouse vocals, while others performed original songs they had written themselves. The moment felt less like a pause in the show and more like an extension of it, reinforcing the communal spirit of the night and highlighting the raw talent present not just onstage, but throughout the crowd.
Teedra Moses followed with a set that unfolded as a gradual but rewarding build. Her performance began on a more subdued note, allowing her smooth, soulful vocals to take center stage. As the set progressed, the energy steadily increased, particularly when she transitioned into her more popular songs. By the latter part of her performance, the mood inside the theater had shifted. Audience members rose from their seats, applauding, singing along, and dancing as the vibe became increasingly electric. What started as a calm, introspective set evolved into one of the night’s more engaging and feel good moments.

By the time Lalah Hathaway took the stage, the venue was visibly more filled, and the anticipation was palpable. Her presence commanded immediate attention, and her soulful voice seemed to draw the audience into a shared emotional space. More people sang and danced along during her set than earlier in the night, not out of obligation, but a genuine connection. It felt as though the audience wasn’t simply watching a performance, but fully immersed in the moment, absorbing every note and lyric. When Hathaway concluded her set, the theater erupted in loud, sustained applause, a clear reflection of the deep impact her performance had made.

The energy reached its peak when Musiq Soulchild finally appeared onstage. From the very second he came out, the audience was fully engaged responding with cheers and rising almost instinctively to their feet. Throughout his performance, most of the crowd remained standing, singing along and moving to the music as he delivered his signature blend of heartfelt lyrics and smooth vocals. His connection with the audience felt effortless and genuine, reinforcing why he remains a beloved figure in contemporary R&B. Rather than feeling like a distant headliner, Musiq created an atmosphere that felt personal, celebratory, and deeply rooted in shared experience.

The concert was more than a lineup of performances, it was a cohesive journey through the many layers of souls and R&B. Each artist brought their own voice and energy to the stage, contributing to a night that felt both nostalgic and refreshingly present, By the time the final notes faded and the lights came up, it was clear that those in attendance had seen something special. A reminder of the power of live music to bring people together, lift spirits, and leave a lasting impression long after the show ends.
