(The Hollywood Times) 6/17/26 – As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly woven into everyday life, GLAAD is urging tech companies to put safety, fairness, and inclusion at the center of AI development.

This week, GLAAD unveiled its inaugural report, Build for Everyone: A Framework for LGBTQ Representation and Safety in AI, examining how AI systems can negatively impact LGBTQ individuals through misinformation, biased content, privacy risks, and discriminatory moderation practices.

The report highlights troubling examples, including AI systems recommending discredited conversion “therapy” and automated moderation tools that disproportionately silence LGBTQ voices online. GLAAD warns that unchecked bias in AI can threaten the health, safety, and civil rights of marginalized communities.

“Neutrality is no longer an option,” said Sarah Kate Ellis, emphasizing that AI developers must take intentional steps to create products that are both responsible and inclusive.

Among its recommendations, GLAAD calls on technology companies to continuously update AI training data, strengthen privacy protections, improve content moderation systems, and work directly with LGBTQ communities throughout the development process.

The report also stresses the importance of transparency and regulatory oversight as AI technology continues to evolve. According to GLAAD, building safer and more accurate AI systems benefits not only LGBTQ users but society as a whole.

The full report serves as a roadmap for developers, designers, and policymakers seeking to ensure that the future of AI truly is built for everyone.
