“Reprogrammed” is a poignant short film written and directed by Christopher Guerrero. The narrative is set in a near-future world that reflects contemporary concerns about how technology can affect human relationships. The film explores the theme of human connection through technology, focusing on a young woman who is keen to program or reprogram her charming AI, reminiscent of classic Apple iMacs.

As she immerses herself in her project, she unfortunately misses her father’s birthday. When her AI, named Iris, inquires about her father’s repeated calls, she struggles to articulate her complicated feelings, hinting at the loss of her mother and her current neglect of her father in favor of her work.

The plot unfolds as the young woman and Iris embark on a visit to her father, where she introduces him to the AI. The father shares cherished old photographs that evoke memories of happier times, and together they enjoy a view of the city skyline. The film culminates in a touching moment, showcasing the trio as they create new memories together that night.

“Reprogrammed” beautifully captures themes of humanity, love, and compassion, emphasizing the importance of sharing personal passions with loved ones. It is scheduled to screen at this year’s Highland Park Independent Film Festival.
