At long last, the 2025 World Series matchup is set. In a thrilling seven game series, the Toronto Blue Jays triumphed over the Seattle Mariners in the American League Championship. This is the Blue Jays’ first appearance in the fall classic since 1993 (I was still sucking my thumb…). The Blue Jays have been a resilient team having battled from being down several times throughout the year. The Blue Jays and several “experts” believe this Toronto team can ride this all the way to the title.

However, to quote the now retired Lee Corso: “NOT SO FAST, MY FRIEND!” The American League representative was a bit of a surprise considering expectations going into this season. But the National League representative is not a surprise at all! The Blue Jays will now have a limited time to rest before they go toe-to-toe with the defending champions: the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers dominated their way into the fall classic: sweeping the Reds, bullying the Phillies, and then sweeping the Brewers in the League Championship (the same Brewers team that had the best regular season record in baseball).

The Blue Jays have ridden Vladimir Gurerro Jr. this far. However, the Dodgers’ pitchers have been firing on all cylinders, so it will be an interesting matchup to watch. It’s true the Blue Jays have been doing great against elite pitching all year, they haven’t faced a rotation as stacked as the Dodgers’. And of course, this means the Blue Jays are faced with the possibility that Shohei Ohtani may have finally found his stride (yeah, that’s a chill that ran down a lot of spines right now, and not just because Halloween is around the corner).

It will be another David vs Goliath matchup. The Blue Jays have home field advantage, but the Dodgers easily took out the Phillies and Brewers in spite of that. Also, fun fact, the Dodgers have been perfect on the road this postseason. The odds are not in the Blue Jays favor, despite what you may hear. The Blue Jays face the possibility of being the underdog against possibly the best team in baseball. A team that treats winning division titles and pennants as nothing more than mere steppingstones. A team that has dominated baseball for over a decade with a dynasty in their sights. This will be interesting to watch.
Game One of the World Series starts on Fox in Toronto at 5PM PDT. No starting pitchers were announced when this was written.
