Thousand Oaks, CA (The Hollywood Times) 11/23/24 – Having heard a lot about Eddie Izzard, and having wanted to see him, it was like a gift from the theatre gods when the opportunity arose to see this performer on stage. And in our backyard, so to speak.
The one and only Eddie aka “Suzie” Izzard (a gender change) has done it all – theatre, film, television etc. but his true niche is in front of live audience. His “The First 35 Years Remix” made its way to the Fred Kavli Theatre, at the Bank of America Performing Arts Center on a cold November night.
To describe Izzard as unique is an understatement. His/her (the performer prefers to identify as a “her” nowadays).
Izzard’s energy is manic, and infectious… she’d be at home on Saturday Night Live, Ru Paul’s Drag Race or anywhere bizarre.
I expected Izzard to be outrageous. I just didn’t know to what degree. True to her reputation, she tore up the stage with gusto. French, German, Spanish. She does them all.
With impressive credits including “The Riches” on the small screen, “Valkyrie” and the “Ocean’s” franchise on film and “A Day in the Death of Joe Egg” Broadway (Tony nominated)/stage, Izzard was a force live.
Highlights? Too many to mention. Catch Izzard when she performs near you next year. You’ll do yourself a favor.
This was the last show of the current US tour.
PS Thanks Dionysus (the Greek Theatre God).
