Los Angeles, CA (The Hollywood Times) 7/10/26 – The countdown to television’s biggest night has officially begun.
The Television Academy announced the nominees for the 78th Emmy Awards on Wednesday, July 8, recognizing the performances, programs and creative talent that made an impact during another exciting year of television.
Leading this year’s nominations is HBO Max’s acclaimed medical drama The Pitt, which earned an impressive 25 nominations. The series is competing for Outstanding Drama Series, while Noah Wyle received a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
In comedy, Hacks proved that it remains one of television’s most celebrated shows. The series received 24 nominations for its fifth and final season, including Outstanding Comedy Series and another lead actress nomination for the incomparable Jean Smart.
Apple TV’s comedy-horror series Widow’s Bay also had a strong showing with 19 nominations, while the science-fiction drama Pluribus received 18. In the limited or anthology categories, the second season of Netflix’s Beef earned 16 nominations, followed by HBO Max’s dark comedy DTF St. Louis with 13.
The ceremony will be hosted by longtime Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star and executive producer Mariska Hargitay. Her appearance marks the first time in 15 years that a woman will serve as the solo host of the Emmy Awards.
The 78th Emmy Awards will air live Monday, September 14, at 8 p.m. ET and 5 p.m. PT on NBC and Peacock.
