Hollywood, CA (The Hollywood Times) 9/27/24 – Last night, the RENBERG THEATER buzzed with energy as the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, Outfest, and the Los Angeles LGBT Center came together for a special premiere screening of Le Mural. The event celebrated not just the film itself, but also the vibrant tapestry of queer identity, sports, and cultural expression.

The evening kicked off with cocktails, appetizers, cakes and a presentation led by Outfest Director Christopher Racster starting the night out by saying “Nice to have the Outfest community back again” and then introducing Kristin Sakoda, Director of LA County Department of Arts and Culture.  Soon after followed a screening of Le Mural, a short film by Barbara Bingley-Verseman that chronicles the creation of a monumental outdoor mural by her twin sister, KATBING, and Parisian artist Kekli. This mural serves as a tribute to the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, encapsulating the excitement and shared enthusiasm for both the Paris and LA games.

Following the screening, attendees engaged in a thought-provoking panel discussion featuring queer athletes and sports sponsors. The conversation highlighted the significance of representation in sports and how the contributions of trailblazers have paved the way for today’s Olympians and out professional athletes.

KATBING’s dynamic artistry and Bingley-Verseman’s impactful filmmaking resonated deeply with the audience, sparking curiosity and dialogue about the intersections of art and sports within the LGBTQIA+ community.

As the evening wrapped up, attendees left feeling inspired and uplifted, looking forward to more celebrations of diversity and expression in the lead-up to the Paris 2024 Games.

A big thank you to the organizers, filmmakers, and panelists for an unforgettable evening celebrating the many colors of queer identity!
