Hollywood, CA (The Hollywood Times) 9/27/26 – I had the pleasure of covering Sara Werner’s Girlfriend Girlfriend last year, so I was genuinely happy to see Sara and her wonderful cast back with Wife Wife. This playful sequel feels like visiting old friends, only now they’ve gotten married.
The premise is simple and very funny: two femme-presenting newlyweds are celebrating on the beach when a group of men assumes they must have husbands somewhere nearby. From there, Sara takes us into another wonderfully exaggerated world filled with comedy, camp and plenty of queer joy.
What I enjoy about Sara’s films is that there is always something meaningful underneath the laughter. Wife Wife has fun with the assumptions people still make about LGBTQ+ couples without ever losing its sweetness.
Bry Gallagher and Sara once again have an easy, natural chemistry, and the film moves quickly, delivers its message and leaves you smiling.
Short, clever and full of heart, Wife Wife is a delightful continuation of Girlfriend Girlfriend, and I hope we haven’t seen the last of these two.
