New York, NY (The Hollywood Times) 06/19/2025Tribeca Film Festival 2025 has just wrapped, and among the many prestigious celebrities that came out this year, the Mitford girls graced the red carpet. Outrageous, a British TV show based on Mary Lovell’s biography, The Sister: The Saga of the Mitford Family premiered this year. It’s a story of six aristocratic sisters who refused to play by the rules, their own scandalous lives making headlines around the world.

Diana Mitford, known as the Fascist, is played by Joanna Vanderham who showed up in a shimmery white gown. Her elegance and pose really eliminated the red carpet. She was followed by her sister, Jessica Mitford, who is known as the communist, and played by Zoe Brough. Zoe showed up with a classy black and white skirt and a sheer white top. Her presence on the carpet was also breathe taken. Lastly, we had Unity Mitford, known as the Hitler-lover. She was played by actress Shannon Watson, and she came in a beautiful white dress with emerald heels. Her beauty shown through as she gracefully moved across the red carpet.

Having such iconic characters to portray, Vanderham shared with us what she thought about her character and the experience she has had on set so far.

“I’m so used to playing the good guy, so it’s an exciting challenge for me to step into someone who doesn’t think like I think and who has very controversial views. I think it’s truly important that we are having these conversations right now, and a good story to be telling,” explained Vanderham.

As a first-time festival goer at Tribeca, Watson shared her experience becoming Unity and what she cherished from this role.

“I had the time of my life. It’s my first leading role and I got to work with five amazing powerful women, which was just heaven.  The family was so eccentric and so wild, it was really eye opening. I never knew anything about the family before, and while reading Mary Lovell’s books, I started understanding everything that was going on with this family. It was wild,” expressed Watson.

Creating such an iconic series, writer/director Sarah Williams gave more insight into why she wanted to create this story and what it meant to her.

“It is a no brainer really; I’ve been with the family for six months. These are such amazing women that are funny, rebellious, transgressive, and clamorous. These women had such a presence and when do you get this type of opportunity? When I found the story, I knew that I had to create it,” explained Williams.

Truly a remarkably series that just premiere on June 18 on BritBox in North America and today on UKTV‘s free streaming platform U and U&DRAMA in the United Kingdom.
