I had the opportunity to speak with Tayla Lynn about her new single release of “I Wanna Be Free”, which will premiere on Friday, May 16.  This single is one of the 11 tracks off her upcoming new album ”Singin’ Loretta” being released on May 30.

Tayla Lynn, who is a country music artist, comedian, actress and proud granddaughter of the legendary Loretta.

Judy Shields (THT):  Hey, there. How you doing?

TL: I’m great. Thanks so much for having me.

JS: Great. Thanks for joining us. First of all, I want to say, who were you named after?

TL:  Oh, God, you know what on my mom’s side, my grandmother had the name Taylor in her name. I think I kind of rednecked it out. I always say and chase it to Tayla.

JS: So that’s pretty cool. The Hollywood Times will be premiering one of your songs “I Wanna Be Free” from your upcoming new 11 track album ”Singin’ Loretta” this Friday, May 16. The album will be out on May 30, and we will be talking with her once again before that comes out. How exciting is this for you?

TL: Oh my gosh, I’m so excited. You know, we got to do a little bit of a free party at the Grand Ole Opry on May 13. Yeah. So they did a party there and and we got to sell 200 CDs, and the first 200 to buy them got to go to a special Meet and Greet party back in the Hee Haw studios. So it’s been really fun to be able to share some of this music, and I’m so excited for it to be out to the masses on May 30,

JS: So like I said, we’re going to be premiering “I Wanna Be Free”. So why did you choose this song?

TL:  You know, “I Wanna Be Free,” I feel like I have close connection with all of the songs, in some ways. This one was really just a song that I loved hearing her sing. I’m gonna take this chain from around my finger and throw her just as far as I can…I don’t know, there is something you know, always that I just loved hearing her sing, though. If you talk about something like “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” you’d have something like sentimental. But this one was just so fun, and I just loved hearing her voice on it. So that’s really it.

The Hollywood Times premieres Tayla Lynn’s new single release “I Wanna Be Free”. Brings back memories of Loretta Lynn, who would be so proud of Tayla version of that classic hit.  Enjoy:

JS: Are you part of a duo called Twitty and Lynn.

TL:  I am.  Conway Twitty was, you know, he was a duo with my Memaw for a long time. I mean, he was a huge star, 55 number one songs in his lifetime, and and he and Memaw all had hit after hit as well, and just so many awards. And I met his grandson Tre at one of the shows out here at the ranch where I live.  I just thought he was such a great singer, and I was already singing some of them songs. So I asked him if he ever wanted to do a show together, we ended up in 2016 doing a couple of songs together out and now 2025 we’ve been a duo since 2018 and yeah, we’re doing about 100 shows a year, and it’s been fantastic. We’ve been on the Grand Ole Opry. This will be going on our eighth time, and forward, we’re having a great time out there

Tre Twitty and Tayla Lynn

JS:  So thank you so much for calling in, and we look forward to talking about a lot of stuff when we get to have that Zoom conversation with you. I can’t wait. Thank you so much. We appreciate it.

TL:  You’re welcome. I’ll talk to you soon. Thank you.
