Give loved ones of all ages the gift of love, vulva love by ‘Destigmatizing Bodies’.
The Hollywood Times was honored to attend 2024’s ‘A Vala Gala’ held in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Lincoln Heights, presented by the School of Sexuality (@school_of_sexuality), founded by Queer Palestinian/Chicana, Bridgett K.
This MET Gala-inspired fashion and art show was brought together by artists worldwide who designed incredible wearable vulvas.
A Vulva Gala featured a diverse array of beautiful art, drag performances, burlesque, a Feminist/Queer pop-up market, complimentary brunch, VULVAs & more!
Possibly the world’s first and only event dedicated to the acknowledgment and celebration of vulvas, often mistakenly referred to as the vagina (internal), the first ever ‘A Vulva Gala’ was developed to help raise awareness of the Vulva Project, a fundraising effort to help The School of Sexuality Project, a mission to build an intersectional and inclusive curriculum for Sex Education in K-12 schools and outside of the classroom, empowering teacher, parents, the community with in sectional resource, literature, and workshops inclusive of LGBTQ+ and BIPOC bodies.
The Vulva Project tackles stigma, promotes sexual health as a human right, and empowers educators to create safe, informed spaces for all students through intersectional storytelling and humor with the aim to re-humanize sex education and break down the stigmas associated with sex and education.
All of the vulvas featured during A Vulva Gala were put on auctioned after the event to help raise funds for this mission, but we’re excited to let you know you can still get involved and help further destigmatize bodies by learning more about the School of Sexuality, spreading the word, and by donating at any time on the website. And for the creative souls out there, you’ll be able to CREATE YOUR OWN WEARABLE VULVA later this year at the Vulva Project workshop.
