Westlake Village, CA (The Hollywood Times) 8/25/24 – Cars and art seem unlikely and strange bedfellows but at an event at the Westlake (Village) Four Seasons Hotel, they seemed to actually be a perfect match.
At a newly revamped exhibition of contemporary art at the Jasper/Grace Zany Studios Gallery space above the sprawling luxury hotel, its thunder was stolen by a display of four-wheel masterpieces in the parking lot. Gorgeous bright colors.
Bentleys, Rolls Royces, cobalt-blue Lamborghini and bright-freen Lamborghini with wing-like doors and McLarens. These showy speedsters from O’Gara Coach in Westlake showed off their style as a companion to a collection of work by some of Los Angeles’ most edgy and exciting artists.
Josh Mayhem’s tiny cars on melamine stands were crafted from acrylic, resin, clay and metal and were a perfect fit. These miniatures were in striking bright blue, red, pink, green, yellow and orange. Mayhem’s “Blown Away- Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren” ($4,900) scale-model car grabbed a lot of attention in the outside lobby entrance. It and others almost seem to be zooming off with their creative design.
Inside, the hotel’s upper-level gallery featured Los Angeles artist Mirapolsky’s (slogan’s “Fear No Art” and “Viva LA”) and the hotel’s spa lobby. Also featured was artist Wrdsmith signed original works.
The artists Mirapolsky and Wrdsmith were there to meet and greet.
Mirapolsky’s new “Sharks in the City” artwork limited edition was on sale (his signature sharks wear sunglasses and sport angel wings- representing the City of Angels).
Trays of champagne added to the conviviality and atmosphere.
Curator hosts were street artist MegZany, and Steven McKinney, with Jasper/Grace. The hotel is at 2 Dole Drive, Westlake Village. This free event was for the lucky few who knew about it. These included a young boy who got to sit in the backseat of a Bentley, and mostly young men who got their fix of motor-head heaven.
As someone who once got to ride in a friend’s dad’s Bentley, I get the thrill.
