Pappy and Harriet’s in Pioneertown, CA (The Hollywood Times) 12/05/23 – Legendary Brit Rocker Plays His Adopted Hometown
English singer songwriter guitarist Terry Reid put on a great show at Pappy and Harriet’s after returning from a hugely successful tour of the U.K. Reid has made the desert near Palm Springs his home for years. Many friends and fans came from near and far for this night.
He moved back and forth from acoustic to electric guitars throughout the night covering many songs from his career while leaning towards his love of Country-tinged tunes. He was supported in this effort by a great backing band including Chris Lawrence on pedal steel guitar. Joining him on drums was his old pal Phil Jones who he performed with every Monday night for years at The Joint nightclub in Los Angeles. On bass Jim Wilson and on guitar Robert Davis.
The stage was crowded by a large selection of guitars. A few technical snafus (a guitar pickup that didn’t work and some on-stage tuning) but these were easily explained by the fact that many of the instruments were in different tunings as is the want of many guitar slingers. Reid also commented “Sometimes the best part of a record or performance is the surprise mistake.”
Some of the highlights included a Bobby Darren cover (Things) and of course the ever-popular Reid songs (Faith To, Seed of Memory, The Frame). He also performed several songs from his forthcoming record based on songs from Westerns including the song from the movie 3:10 to Yuma. Reid entertained the audience throughout the show with stories about the songs and his career.
As always Pappy and Harriet’s served up its great atmosphere, food and drinks.
Special mention is appropriate for the opening act Angie and the Deserters featuring Angie Bruyere with her deep sultry voice, great songs, and presentation.
