Have you ever worn an outfit where everyone stops you and asks you, who is the designer? And where can they buy one? I received a beautiful hoodie and some leggings from an Oscar viewing party back in 2023 and I just realized that wherever I am traveling in America or even out of the country I am stopped by both men and women who tell me that they want what I am wearing. I also have to say that my hoodie is not only chic, but it keeps me warm and comfortable. Which some say in fashion, is contradictory.

Meet Anita Davenport who is the creator and owner of clothing line “Single Tree Lane”. Her style is “Hobo Chic” meaning a conglomerate of hippie/ hobo style. Anita mixes and matches different colors and patterns which create some very cool colorful designs. The clothes just pop. Anita says that her clothes are for people who like to live out loud.

Some of her most successful pieces are “Unisex”. Which makes sense because I have an equal number of men and women approach me. To think of it, a lot of products these days are going “Unisex” like perfumes, makeup, etc. Why not clothes? Anita said that as a child growing up, she was a trendsetter. She told me that her secret was that she shopped in both women’s and men clothing departments. Then she would mix and match both gender garments and put together outfits that her peers would fall in love with and mirror.  I asked her if she ever felt like a man when wearing male clothing? She said as a woman we have male hormones and according to my google research woman have 1/10- 1/20 testosterone less than males. Sometimes those hormones activate and as women we can act like or can feel like a man. Anita said that as a female when you are in relationship with a man in his divine masculine those male hormones/attributes are less likely to pop up. She credits a lot of her current success to her male partner who is very loving and supportive for the last 9 years. Makes sense myself, I told Anita that when life is fair and balanced, I feel like a lady. However, when people try to one up to me, demean me or steal from me, I go from Josephine to Joseph in a split second.  That’s why her style of “Unisex “works. Men also produce small amounts of estrogen and progesterone. So, Men and Women have mutually inclusive hormones, and we can flip flop at any time.

Anita is looking to create a new “Celebrity Endorsed Collection” of sweatshirts, hoodies, and tee shirts for fans of certain musical artists. She has made pre-production samples of very chic images of 50 CENT, George Clinton, Lenny Kravitz, and Snoop Dogg and hopes to collaborate with them and more Celebrities in the near future.

SingleTree Lane, an independent fashion brand founded by entrepreneur and artist Anita Davenport, is among the many that are taking advantage of this democratization of fashion afforded by the internet. Named after a street in Southern California where Davenport grew up, SingleTree is a culmination and expression of her varied personalities, styles, interests, inspirations, and ethnic background. A prolific designer, Davenport established SingleTree on February 1st of 2023 in honor of Black History Month and to bring together aspects of all her creations under one umbrella.
