Phoenix, AZ (The Hollywood Times) 4/25/25 – In Finding Nicole, director Harley Wallen takes audiences on a journey through one woman’s harrowing fight for freedom. Inspired by the real-life story of Nicole Beverly, this true-crime drama isn’t just a movie—it’s a vivid reminder of some peoples’ unfortunate reality.

At its core, Finding Nicole is the story of a mother and survivor who defies fear to protect her children and reclaim her life. Running just 90 minutes, the film dives deep into the emotional toll of domestic violence while never losing sight of hope and empowerment.

The film follows Nicole Beverly, portrayed by Kaiti Wallen, as she navigates the dangerous path away from an abusive relationship. The story is based on Beverly’s own book and public advocacy work, and the script doesn’t shy away from the grim realities many victims face. Yet through it all, the central theme remains clear: resilience in the face of relentless adversity.

“I never imagined my story would be a film,” Nicole Beverly shared. “But I also never imagined I’d survive what I went through. If this movie helps one person feel less alone or inspires someone to leave a dangerous situation, it’s worth it.”

Beverly was closely involved in the filmmaking process, ensuring that her story was portrayed with authenticity. “Harley and Kaiti were incredibly respectful of the details,” she said. “There’s trauma, yes, but there’s also triumph—and that balance is so important.”

In a recent interview with Valerie Milano, Harley Wallen opened up about his evolution as a filmmaker and the unique challenges of directing Finding Nicole.

“I’ve always been fascinated by storytelling,” he said. “Growing up, I was that kid always making little home movies with my parents’ camcorder… I’ve done thrillers and sci-fi, but Finding Nicole felt different—it felt urgent.”

Wallen spoke about the responsibility that came with telling a real person’s story. “This isn’t just entertainment,” he said. “It’s a call to action, a spotlight on a very real epidemic. Nicole’s story needed to be told—and heard.”

Kaiti Wallen, Harley Wallen’s spouse in real life, delivers her performance as Nicole, capturing both courage and the emotional burden of a survivor. Supporting performances by Sean Whalen, Richard Tyson, and Shawntay Dalon add layers, while an ensemble cast—including Blanca Blanco, Debra Lamb, and Vida Ghaffari—helps the film feel real. Wallen’s direction gives audiences a raw look at the psychological landscape survivors must navigate.

The film has already made an impact on the festival circuit. Finding Nicole took home the Audience Award at the LaFemme Festival and Best Feature Film at the London Movie Awards, with Kaiti Wallen earning Best Lead Actress at ARFF Barcelona.

“Directing is about leadership and vision—bringing everyone together toward a single goal,” Harley Wallen said. “And when you’re working with a story like Nicole’s, every person on set feels that responsibility.”

Finding Nicole is slated for a limited theatrical premiere on May 1, 2025, followed by a wide Video on Demand release on May 6.

Looking ahead, Wallen also teased his next feature, “Killing Jenny” and it’s another true story through Nicole’s “Enough Initiative”.

“You learn by doing,” he said when asked what advice he’d offer aspiring filmmakers. “Don’t wait for perfect. Just start telling stories that matter.”
