I had the pleasure of speaking with Sid Simons today about his new single and upcoming album, which is set to be released later this year. He took the time to discuss his new single, “Under My Skin,” which just dropped along with a music video. It’s a powerful anthem that embodies the pain of betrayal, and I can really relate to this song since I’ve experienced betrayal myself.
I love that they included the lyrics in the video. One line that really stood out to me is when he says, “When I caught you dancing with your pants down to your knees.” At first, I was a bit taken aback, did he really just say that? After thinking about it, I realized he did! I asked him about the line, and he explained that it’s a metaphor. However, having caught someone cheating on me, the song resonates deeply with my experiences.
I’ve been loving the music that’s been coming out lately because it’s influenced by the songs I grew up with, whether they were released during my youth or just something I heard back then. It feels like there’s a collective knowledge to the sound he’s creating. The song reminds me of a Guns N’ Roses ballad mixed with early 2000s rock. He told me someone once said he looked like Axl Rose, I kind of see it now.
Sid Simons has an interesting background; he was born in Portland, then moved to Australia, and later relocated to New York City. He tells me that NYC is very different from Australia, where he remembers being barefoot a lot. Simons is incredibly talented I can feel the rock roots in his music. He first gained widespread attention with his album, Beneath The Brightest Smiles, produced by Gordon Raphael, who previously worked with The Strokes and Regina Spektor, a huge influence on me.
Sid is an artist, a lyricist, and a top-notch performer. A star on the rise, Be sure to check out his new single and video! here.
