The Hollywood Times celebrates a spectacular Pride weekend filled with community, visibility and the people who make the annual tradition possible.

San Diego, CA (The Hollywood Times) 7/19/26 – Under the theme “Pride Shines On,” San Diego Pride 2026 brought a brilliant wave of color, music and LGBTQIA+ visibility to Hillcrest and Balboa Park from July 17–19.
As an official media partner, The Hollywood Times was proud to cover a celebration that remains both a joyous summer tradition and a powerful reminder that Pride is more than a party, it is a movement sustained by individuals, couples, volunteers, nonprofit organizations, local businesses and allies.
The weekend began Friday evening with the Spirit of Stonewall Rally, honoring the activists whose courage helped build the modern LGBTQIA+ rights movement. This year’s honorees included Bears San Diego Inc., recipient of the Stonewall Service Award; Jill Barret, recipient of the Stonewall Philanthropy Award; Jackette Knightley and Queens & Kings for Causes, recipients of the Larry T. Baza Arts & Culture Award; and Rev. Dan Koeshall, recipient of the Light of Pride Award.
By Saturday morning, Hillcrest was already alive with activity. The annual San Diego Pride 5K Run + Walk stepped off at 8 a.m. from Centre Street and University Avenue, welcoming runners, walkers and plenty of participants dressed in their most imaginative rainbow attire.
Among the runners was Ryan Chambers, whom The Hollywood Times got a chance to chat with later in the VIP section near the Stonewall Main Stage. Ryan’s participation represented the energetic, personal side of Pride, the people willing to lace up their shoes early in the morning and become part of something much larger than themselves.
Ryan’s boyfriend, Danny Milla, participated in a different but equally visible way. An employee of Cox Communications, Danny drove the company’s truck in the San Diego Pride Parade. Together, Ryan and Danny offered a wonderful snapshot of the many ways people contribute to Pride: one running the 5K and the other helping carry the celebration through the streets of Hillcrest.
Their story is also a reminder that behind every float, vehicle, performance and contingent are real people offering their time and energy to make Pride happen.
Following the run, the San Diego Pride Parade stepped off at 10 a.m. More than 200 contingents traveled the 1.5-mile route through Hillcrest, beginning along University Avenue before turning south toward Balboa Park. Marching groups, community organizations, elected officials, corporate partners, motorcycles, elaborate floats and families filled the route with Pride flags, music and messages of equality. Cox Communications was among the companies visibly represented, with Danny helping guide its truck through the enormous celebration.
Once the parade reached its conclusion, the energy continued at Marston Point in Balboa Park for the two-day San Diego Pride Festival. Four stages, the Stonewall Stage, Mundo Latino Stage, Movement Stage and Euphoria Stage—presented a broad mix of pop, electronic music, drag, dance and LGBTQIA+ talent.
Saturday’s entertainment was led by Krewella, while Sunday welcomed MARINA as its headliner. The weekend’s expansive lineup also included HAYLA, G Flip, Altégo, Mad Tsai, Wreckno, Cece Natalie, DJ Holographic, Sam Blacky, Cortisa Star, Disco Shrine, Darumas, DJ Mark Kanemura, David Harness, Rae Cola, Sizzy Rocket and Juliet Mendoza. The festival offered far more than its headline entertainment. Community organizations and service providers connected attendees with vital information, while food vendors, gathering spaces and the returning Queer Locals Marketplace showcased LGBTQIA+-owned businesses, artisans and entrepreneurs.
A newly elevated VIP area provided an impressive view of the Stonewall Main Stage and gave artists, supporters and invited guests a comfortable place to gather. It was there that The Hollywood Times connected with Ryan and Danny and heard about their respective Pride experiences.
Throughout Balboa Park, the weekend demonstrated the extraordinary range of the LGBTQIA+ community. Every age, identity and background appeared to have a place within the celebration. Some attendees came for the music, some for the parade and others simply for the freedom of being surrounded by people who understood the importance of living openly and authentically.
That sense of belonging remains one of San Diego Pride’s greatest achievements.
While the parade and festival receive the greatest public attention, San Diego Pride’s work continues throughout the year through advocacy, community programming, education, philanthropy and support for other LGBTQIA+ organizations. Proceeds from the Pride 5K, for example, benefit San Diego Pride and The San Diego LGBT Community Center’s Youth Housing Project. At a time when LGBTQIA+ people, particularly transgender members of the community, continue to face political attacks and attempts to erase hard-won protections, public celebrations like San Diego Pride carry renewed importance. Joy itself becomes a statement. Visibility becomes resistance. Community becomes protection.
San Diego Pride 2026 succeeded because it combined that deeper purpose with an irresistible spirit of celebration. From Ryan crossing the Pride 5K course to Danny driving the (& working with) Cox truck through Hillcrest, from the thousands lining the parade route to the artists commanding the festival stages, the weekend belonged to everyone who showed up and allowed their Pride to shine.
