Pope Leo XIV

Pope Robert Francis Prevost is the Catholic Church’s 267th leader.

Those that have been waiting at the Sistine Chapel for days have now seen white smoke coming for the temporary chimney atop the Sistine Chapel.  The new pope stepped onto the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican City, as the new leader of the world’s 1.4 billion Catholics.  Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost was selected as the next pope.  He is 69 years old and the first America pontiff in history and from Chicago, Illinois, our United States of America.  He called from peace and paid tribute to the late Pope Francis to a roaring crowd.

He spend much of his career as a missionary in South America and most recently led a powerful Vatican office for bishop appointments.  He worked for a decade in Trujillo, Peru and later appointed bishop of Chiclayo, another Peruvian city. He served there from 2014 to 2023.

There were 133 voting cardinals and any one of them needed two-thirds of the vote to become the next pope.

What wonderful news for all the Catholics of these United States of America.  God Bless Pope Leo XIV
