It was a beautiful day at CityWalk Hollywood as the press and photographers checked in and found their place on the red carpet to have the opportunity to interview the creative team of The Hopeful. It was a great red carpet and to see the movie on the big screen was just amazing. The Hopeful is the true story of a community whose lives were transformed as they learn what it means to truly wait for Jesus. This sweeping drama, set in 19th century New England, invites audiences of all ages to imagine how hope can change the world.
William Miller’s faith is in ruins. After miraculously surviving a fierce battle in the War of 1812, Miller questions why God spared him. His search for wisdom leads to an astonishing prophecy — the world is going to end. The Hopeful unfolds as a story of a man burdened with the knowledge of Christ’s return. Miller’s message resonates with some – even as it is scorned by others. When a young woman named Ellen Harmon listens to one of his sermons, she is transformed by the message. And through her, witness the message that begins to take hold. Her preaching grows beyond prophecy and develops into a more holistic vision for how Christians should live and worship. We see blossoming the seeds of a new global movement of faith — the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Director Kyle Portbury:
Through one of his directing mentors, Bob Bladgen (“All Creatures Great and Small”), Portbury serendipitously secured his first filmmaking gig as a line producer on a documentary about Marvin Gaye – which put him on the road with the iconic singer’s two sisters. He soon got the opportunity to direct and produce “The Mountain Within,” a feature length documentary that followed disabled climbers up Mt. Kilimanjaro – an experience that led him to rediscover his acting training and realize that the most critical aspect of filmmaking is the fact that, metaphorically, it’s all about a character’s journey up some sort of mountain and back down again. Over the years, Portbury’s works include the short film “Swan Song,” a David and Bathsheba allegory; “Truth,” about abolitionist Sojourner Truth’s speech “Ain’t I a Woman,” that won him an Emmy; writing on a series of five minute animated shorts “Young David” for Angel Studios that collectively form a prequel to the 2025 feature film he also wrote on called “David;” and “Beyond the Search,” a 14-part faith based travel series for a global television network that was also dubbed into multiple languages.
Timothy Paul Coderre (Portrays the role of Joseph in The Hopeful:
Timothy Paul Coderre is known for Travelers (2016), Gone Mom (2021) and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow (2016). After 27-year military career, Timothy became an actor and has worked professionally since 2011. While still very much in love with acting, Tim answered a growing desire to craft and tell his own stories, and in 2019 he enrolled in film school with the goal of ‘removing any technical barriers to creativity’ and pursuing a life directing film. Tim quickly and happily learned that the ‘removal’ of these barriers will take a lifetime dedicated to this pursuit. Based in Vancouver, BC, Tim divides this time between acting, writing, producing and directing his own work.
Jonas Myrin:
Originally from Sweden and now based in Los Angeles, Jonas Myrin is a two-time Grammy® Award-winning singer, songwriter, pianist, and producer. He’s been honored with six GMA Dove Awards and a Billboard Award for his contributions to music. With a versatile talent that transcends genres, Jonas’s songs have reached over 3 billion streams worldwide, resonating with audiences across the globe. Notable collaborations include writing for renowned artists such as Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand Andrea Bocelli, Natasha Bedingfield and Nicole Scherzinger, among others. Kevin Christenson
Kevin Christenson, a Southern Adventist University alumnus, received a bachelor’s degree in international business management and a bachelor’s in international studios with an emphasis in Spanish. After graduating, he got into the film industry in Atlanta, Georgia. He moved up in his career, starting with roles as an extra, then an actor stand-in, and eventually some speaking roles. He got his first opportunity to be an executive producer, which led him to the production side of the industry and is now head of Hope Studios, a cinematic department under Hope Channel International, operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
