Over $150,000 Raised to Benefit Stroke and Brain Injury Survivors with Aphasia
HOUSTON, Texas (April 7, 2021) – The Houston Aphasia Recovery Center (HARC) welcomed Country Music Hall of Fame member Randy Travis and his wife Mary to share their incredible journey following his 2013 stroke for the first virtual annual “Let’s Talk” Luncheon. In addition to hearing the Travis’ story, guests of this unique virtual event enjoyed a special performance of Randy Travis melodies by the HARC Heralds Aphasia Choir and words from a HARC participant and caregiver. Each year, the luncheon raises critical funds supporting the Houston Aphasia Recovery Center’s vital communication skills program, education, advocacy, resources, and research for people with aphasia, their caregivers, and the greater Houston community. Proceeds from the luncheon support the center’s programs for stroke and brain injury survivors.
HARC is a non-profit wellness center for persons with aphasia, difficulty with communication, speaking or understanding words, as a result of a stroke or brain injury. HARC creates a safe haven where participants engage in supported communication, therapeutic socialization, recreation and camaraderie to fully participate in life. As HARC continues to feel the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, funds raised at the annual “Let’s Talk” Luncheon are more critical to the success of the nonprofit this year than any before. HARC had over 4,000 views of the Let’s Talk Luncheon in addition to 15 different watch parties throughout the week.
