NEW film “I CAN” in theaters nationwide on 9/22. I CAN” is an inspirational feature-length film based on the true story of one-armed athlete Katelyn Pavey who defied the odds by becoming a college All-American

LOS ANGELES  (July 21, 2023) — First Capital Films (“A Fathers Fight”) in partnership with Kappa Studios, the postproduction home for “The Chosen,” “The Shift,” and “His Only Son,” announce the upcoming national release of “I CAN” – an inspirational feature-length film based on the true story of one-armed athlete Katelyn Pavey who defied the odds by becoming an All-American college softball player. The film is slated to release in select cities nationwide on Friday, September 22. See the film’s first trailer here which has organically grown to nearly two-million views on social media.  The powerful biopic follows Pavey’s remarkable personal journey of triumph with plenty of “I CAN” perseverance, her family’s love, and lots of God’s grace. “Whatever adversity that you’re faced with, you can always find a way,” says Pavey. “With God, all things are possible.”

“I CAN” will serve as the flagship film release of Kappa Distribution, an alternative model for filmmakers from Kappa Studios. “Through our newly formed Kappa Distribution, filmmakers receive revenue from the moment the first returns come in as opposed to waiting until after the later investors fully recoup,” says Brad Silverman, chief content officer, Kappa Studios. “In addition to our revenue sharing from dollar one, we also open a joint savings account with the filmmaker so they can see exactly how much money their project has earned for full transparency.”

Paul Long, founder and president of Kappa Studios, says, “Many independent filmmakers are crushed and sidelined by their experiences with traditional distributors. Unless their title is a runaway hit, there’s rarely a way for them to make back any money. We hope to change that. Also, instead of taking away all control of the projects, we work closely as a team with filmmakers for the best outcomes, plus provide them a percentage of all monies from the very start.”

“I CAN” producers include Kappa Studios’ President Paul Long and Kappa’s Chief Creative Officer Brad Silverman as well as Justen Overlander who served as associate producer for the first two seasons of “The Chosen.” The film is directed by Tyler Sansom of First Capital Films.

“After 30-years in this business, the momentum we’re seeing with this film is remarkable,” said Silverman. “We’re honored to be bringing “I CAN” to select theaters nationwide on September 22.

In anticipation of the upcoming national release, the producers hosted an exclusive red-carpet premiere in Corydon, Indiana on April 2 with over 500 people, followed by two-days of special screenings that drew an unprecedented 2,500 fans from the small Southern Indiana community of 3,102 residents.

“I CAN” is nominated for Best Picture, Best Director (Tyler Sansom) and Best Supporting Actor (Daniel Roebuck) with the prestigious International Christian Film Festival, and has already won Best Picture, Best Director (Tyler Sansom) and Best Actor (Daniel Roebuck) at the Florida Faith and Family Film Festival.

Filmed in Corydon, New Albany, and Louisville, “I CAN” features local Indiana actors Amanda Verkamp and Jeff Armstrong, along with national talent including Daniel Roebuck (“The Fugitive,” “US Marshals,” “Matlock,” “LOST,” “The Munsters”), Vernon Wells (“Mad Max,” “Weird Science,” “Commando”), and Cameron Arnett (“Overcomer,” “Running The Bases,” “I Still Believe”).
