West Hollywood, CA (The Hollywood Times) 6/16/23 – Who knows which celebrity, drag queen, or wannabee star one will see on the dance floor at The Abbey, an LGBTQ bar located in West Hollywood? We went Wednesday and Thursday night hoping to see Kristen Stewart, Lady Gaga, or RuPaul. Despite no star sightings, we still had a fabulous time dancing to the thumping beats.
This LGBTQ bar is so different from the one I go to in the state of Indiana. There weren’t any heavy black curtains hiding the people inside. The drag shows don’t cost $10.00. The Abbey is open seven days a week offering several dance floors, outdoor dining, and plenty of hot people. There were acrobatic dancers who could have gotten a gold medal in gymnastics for their athletic moves. They could have been recruited by Cirque Du Soleil. Gorgeous bartenders who could be on the cover of Vogue. Couples celebrating love. And loners looking for a fling. Not everyone dressed to impress. There were some fashion disasters. For instance, one of the dancers had on a speedo with a hideous Davy Crockett hat. We called the fashion police. But they never showed up. There was also a bar casualty who was observed outside surrounded by police and first responders. Reminding me we can’t always party like a rock Star. The Abbey demonstrates LGBTQ bars will always be places to celebrate a sense of community, celebrate culture, and one’s identity.
