Los Angeles, CA, (The Hollywood Times) 07/21/2025 – Ragamuffin presents a unique viewing experience due to its use of traditional film, which contributes to its distinct aesthetic. The visuals are characterized by rich colors, noticeable grain, and beautiful lighting, elevating its overall artistic quality.

At its core, the film can be described as a coming-of-age story centered around Ryan “Ragamuffin” Myles, a young female motocross rider portrayed by Eden Harper. The narrative follows her and her father, Mad Mike, played by Robert Hadlock, as they travel together, seemingly running a shop. There are subtle hints at Ryan’s sexuality through her awkward interactions with other girls; however, this aspect is not the central focus of the film. Instead, it provides a surreal glimpse into the world of motocross without featuring actual races.

The film’s conclusion is intriguing, with Mike receiving a phone call from Ryan, suggesting a disconnection that raises questions about the reality of their relationship, was it all a dream? The character of the father is particularly notable for his supportive yet complex nature, leaving audiences to ponder whether he is truly “Mad” or if there’s a deeper psychological narrative at play involving estrangement.
This work marks the directorial debut of Kaitlyn Mikayla, who also wrote the film. “Ragamuffin” will be presented at this year’s Hollyshorts Film Festival, highlighting its significance within the festival circuit. For tickets please visit Hollyshorts.com
