Los Angeles, CA (The Hollywood Times) 9/3/25 – Actor and director Arinjay Shekhar’s upcoming comedy series, “So Basically,” has officially started filming in Los Angeles. The series promises a fresh and relatable take on adulthood, exploring the universal experience of stumbling through life and finding humor in spectacular failure. Inspired by the popular French show Bref, this 12-episode short-form series also marks a major milestone as the cinematography debut of visual effects artist Abhilash Nanda.

“So Basically” follows the misadventures of a young adult navigating daily life while failing spectacularly at nearly everything he tries. The story begins after a recent breakup, as he attempts to move on by dating someone new, only to realize he’s not truly interested. His effort to end the relationship spirals into its own comedic disaster, setting the tone for the series. Each episode highlights a different moment where the protagonist’s best-laid plans and simplest goals go humorously and hopelessly off track.

“We are incredibly excited to be in production on ‘So Basically’,” said Arinjay Shekhar, who created, wrote, directs, and stars in the series. “This is a story that everyone can relate to. We’ve all had those moments where our life feels like it’s hilariously falling apart, and that’s the heart of this show. We’re telling a grounded, authentic story, but we’re elevating it with a blockbuster-level visual approach.”

A standout feature of the show is the involvement of Abhilash Nanda, a celebrated VFX artist known for his work on Hollywood films such as In Time, The Host, and Gulliver’s Travels. “So Basically” represents a creative pivot for Nanda, who is stepping into the role of Director of Photography for the first time while continuing to lead the VFX on the series.

“To have someone with Abhilash’s talent and experience on set is a game-changer for this independent project,” Shekhar added. “He has an incredible eye for visual storytelling and is bringing a cinematic quality to a genre that’s often more stripped down. His background in large-scale productions means he knows how to build a world, even if our main character’s world is constantly and comically falling to pieces.”

The series’ ensemble cast also features Shahriar Ghoudsifar, Raz Patel, James Carter Montgomery, and Sachin Patel, with additional casting to be announced as production continues.

With its blend of humor, heart, and striking visuals, “So Basically” is shaping up to be a series that captures the chaos of adulthood in a way that’s both funny and relatable, proving that sometimes the only way to move forward is to stumble.
