Los Angeles, CA (The Hollywood Times) 3/8/23 – With the awards season upon us, one quirky indie film is picking up award after award. “Yellow Bird” is written by Tony Jerris and directed by Angus Benfield. The story of a once successful P.R. specialist who deals with the trials and tribulations of managing a local grocery store known as “The Yellow Bird” while struggling with his loveless marriage, an unhappy stepdaughter, and his own sobriety.
“Yellow Bird” recently won Best Feature Film at the Santa Monica Film Festival. It also won an official selection this year in the Barcelona Indie Festival and Mediterranean Film Festival.
“I started writing this film in 2016 as a series and knew there was something there when it made the finals in numerous writing contests,” said Jerris. “Six years later, I turned it into a movie, and I am overwhelmed at the positive reviews and response. I’m sort of going in reverse, but the movie is now garnering interest in a series!”
Other laurels so far for this dark comedy include “Best Feature Film at the Mabig Film Festival (Germany) and Best Narrative Feature” at the World Film Carnival (Singapore).
Jerris said, “The cast and crew became a family, the ‘Yellow Bird Family’.” Cast members include Brian Doyle Murray and Kathy Garver, with Benfield as Jake Rush.
Streaming now on Amazon, with more platforms coming and a DVD slated, said Jerris.
