Every season is chock-full of family activities at Camelback Resort, where the Pocono Mountains of Tannersville, Pennsylvania and five hundred and sixty acres of adventure beckon all ages for bonding, fun, and technology-free togetherness.
Winter, summer, spring, and fall abound with activity and good times, featuring Camelback’s renowned water parks for all weather possibilities: Camelbeach outdoor waterpark for days when the sun shines warm, and Aquatopia Indoor Waterpark for colder weather.
Camelbeach is Pennsylvania’s largest mountain waterpark, featuring thirty-seven rides and slides, along with the popular High Noon Typhoon, Rival Racer, and a lazy river. Rentals are available, including strollers, wheelchairs, picnic tables, cabanas, and lockers, and plenty of shops and restaurants are nearby.
Indoor adventures include an Escape Room, a VR arena, Laser Tag, the Arcadia Arcade, and Bowling.
Outdoor activities at the Adventure Park include mini-golfing, zip lining with Treetop Adventures, the Mountain Coaster, and Sunbowl Tubing (no snow required).
In the wintertime, there’s skiing and tubing, along with a Ski and Ride Academy.
Most families opt for a multi-day stay (or at least a weekend) in order to enjoy the myriad of activities. Accommodations at the eight-story Camelback Lodge range from deluxe guest rooms to junior suites to family condos, with all lodging being spacious, clean, quiet, and convenient.
With more than twenty resort restaurants, Camelback has food to please all palates. When I visited in July with granddaughter Harper, twelve, and her friend Erich, thirteen, we enjoyed the best Mexican food this side of the moon at the Alta Vida restaurant.
So I’ve visited in the winter and I’ve visited in the summer, and autumn is next on my list . . . as it should be on yours as well, because Camelback has just announced their newest exciting event, slated for the fall season.
On Thursday, September 17th, Camelback will unveil the “Curse of Camelback,” an immersive post-apocalyptic experience that’s perfect for the Halloween season.
Beginning at the base of the mountain, guests are recruited to join a fictional emergency response mission following a chemical accident. According to the storyline, chemicals used during the excavation of new winter trails mixed with pool-cleaning compounds and created mysterious toxic fumes that caused people exposed to them to mutate.
Guests board the mountain lift and travel uphill to Camelbeach, entering the containment zone, where the rescue mission quickly takes a terrifying turn.
As guests navigate an abandoned emergency response camp, fog-filled waterpark attractions, chemical spills, barricades, eerie tunnels and maze-like paths, they come face-to-face with mutated characters and unexpected scares. Missing-persons posters, emergency signage and other details throughout the experience reveal the story of the outbreak – which raise questions about how this all happened.
The guests ultimately meet Gary, the outbreak’s “patient zero,” who has undergone a horrifying transformation producing more of the toxic gas. Guests must escape through a series of final scares before reaching safety.
Designed as an immersive Halloween experience, The Curse of Camelback combines theatrical storytelling, elaborate sets, special effects, costumed characters, and jump scares with the unique terrain of Camelback Mountain to create this chilling post-apocalyptic world sure to appeal to Halloween fans.
“More than a haunted attraction – this experience takes guests on a journey from the base of the mountain into a completely altered world,” said Jason Bays, vice president and general manager of the year-round recreational destination resort. “We’re excited to introduce ‘The Curse of Camelback’ as the premiere experience of our new annual Halloween tradition with a different story and theme to come year after year.”
The Curse of Camelback runs Thursday, September 17, through Sunday, November 8th, from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursdays and Sundays, and 6 p.m. to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
