Bembé is a captivating short film crafted by the talented Zayre Ferrer, who takes on both writing and directing duties. The film features an impressive ensemble cast that includes Nathaly Navarro, Mauro Castillo, Rafael Castillo, Lex Lumpkin, Fernando Huc, Vico Ortiz, and Carlos El Grande.
At the heart of the story is Annette, portrayed by the dynamic Nathaly Navarro, who works as a bartender in a lively merengue club. Despite her role behind the bar, Annette harbors a fervent dream of one day leading her own Merengue band. She’s a passionate singer, but there’s one major hurdle standing in her way: she has no band to perform with.
On a pivotal night, a record label representative visits the club, sparking a spark of hope in Annette. Echoing the words of a famous rapper, she stands at a crossroads: if she has one shot, one opportunity to seize everything she’s ever desired, will she be able to capture it, or will she let it slip through her fingers?
This night is crucial for Annette, as she knows the label scout is in attendance, and this particular label is known for championing women band leaders. When her boss surprisingly offers her a chance to perform after the current band, her heart races with anticipation. However, with mere minutes to prepare, Annette springs into action.
She frantically searches the club for fellow musicians, weaving through the pulsating crowd and skillfully dodging obstacles. In her quest, she recruits a friend loitering on the street, persuades a security guard to join her, and even scours the venue for old uniforms to create a makeshift band. Yet, amid the chaos, Annette remains mindful of her responsibilities as a bartender, not realizing that she’s inadvertently given the record scout a complimentary drink.

With every moment that ticks by, excitement builds as Annette pieces together her last-minute ensemble. All that remains is for her to step onto the stage. Although the film concludes just before her performance, viewers are left with a sense of exhilaration and hope that she and her band will make a lasting impression.
Bembé is a vibrant exploration of ambition and resilience, offering a thrilling glimpse into a talented artist on the brink of capturing her dreams. It is sure to leave the audience feeling inspired and cheering for Annette.
