Comic Fans Preview Documentary on Alt Comic Book Series ‘Love & Rockets’ at KCET Premiere Screening Event Ahead of Season Premiere of Arts and Culture Series ARTBOUND

On Tues., Oct. 4, KCET celebrated the thirteenth season of Original series, ARTBOUND, with a private screening event premiering “Love & Rockets: The Great American Comic Book.” The event took place at the Laemmle Theatre NoHo 7 in North Hollywood where close to 200 guests previewed an advance screening of the documentary followed by a panel discussion with the groundbreaking comic book creators and the documentary’s filmmakers. Attendees included filmmakers and talent from the other five upcoming documentaries included in Season 13 of ARTBOUND as well. The event was held
ahead of KCET’s Wed., Oct. 5 at 9 p.m. PT on KCET broadcast series premiere of the new season.

KCET President and CEO Andrew Russell welcomed guests along with remarks from Senior Director of Production Angela Boisvert. After the screening, Los Angeles Times arts columnist moderator Carolina A. Miranda, facilitated a short panel discussion with acclaimed Love & Rockets creators Gilbert Hernandez, Jaime Hernandez along with the documentary’s filmmakers Omar Foglio and Jose Luis Figueroa of Dignicraft. A reception followed the screening at the iconic Federal Bar in North Hollywood where guests celebrated the documentary as well as the 40 th anniversary of the comic series drinking
appropriately named cocktails based on fan-favorite characters from the comic books series, eating some light bites and listening to alternative 80s music all the while classic Love & Rockets art played on a slideshow loop.

All six of the documentaries in the new season will also subsequently air on both PBS SoCal in Southern California and Link TV nationwide with “Love & Rockets: The Great American Comic Book” debuting Fri., Oct. 7 at 8 p.m. PT on PBS SoCal and Tues., Oct. 11 at 10 pm ET/PT on Link TV (DirecTV channel 375 / Dish Network channel 9410). The films will also be available for streaming at kcet.org/artbound and the FREE PBS app.
