Casa del Mar joined the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk at the Santa Monica Pier on Saturday, October 24. The popular footwear company , APL, gifted limited-edition breast cancer awareness sneakers to members of the Casa del Mar team. Participants gathered near the Pier’s Carousel before the walk began at 9:30 a.m., then completed as much of the approximately three-mile route as they wished. Casa del Mar hosted a post-walk brunch at Terrazza to celebrate the team’s efforts.
APL—short for Athletic Propulsion Labs—is a luxury performance footwear brand founded by brothers Adam and Ryan Goldston. The company launched its Concept 1 basketball shoe in 2010, featuring patented “Load ’N Launch” technology designed to increase vertical leap. After the NBA banned the shoe, citing an unfair competitive advantage, APL drew international attention. In 2014, the brand expanded into running with its TechLoom Pro, and has since grown into training and lifestyle footwear, combining performance technology with distinctive materials, colors and detailing.
Giving back is also part of APL’s mission. NJ Falk, Managing Director at APL, spoke about the sport shoes that she sponsored the Casa Del Mar Team with ; The pink-and-white breast cancer awareness style featured at the walk supports women’s cancer research, with APL donating up to 20% of proceeds to the Women’s Cancer Research Fund. The initiative is also personal to the company’s managing director whose mother died of breast cancer.
Making Strides is a nationwide movement that brings communities together to support people affected by breast cancer and fund lifesaving research and programs. The Santa Monica event raised $384,207 toward its $625,000 goal.
