NFL 2025 SEASON PREVIEW

0

The wait is finally over. The roar of the crowd, the crisp autumn air, and the Sunday rituals are all back. The 2025 NFL season kicks off tonight with the heavyweight matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles. There’s a familiar sense of optimism for all fans, as all teams take their places on the starting line.

After the unceremonious fall of the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this year, the bell has been rung. The Chiefs aren’t as dominant as they have been in recent years. The other teams smell blood, and they’re eager to take advantage. We have teams like the Denver Broncos and Washington Commanders who are emerging as young, eager contenders. We also have teams like the Detroit Lions, Baltimore Ravens, and Buffalo Bills looking to finally make it over the hill. Here’s everything you need to know before kickoff tonight:

  • THE EAGLES ARE READY TO START THEIR TITLE DEFENSE

It’s been a long, hard slug back to the top of the mountain for the Philadelphia Eagles. Their utter destruction of the Chiefs has given them the throne. However, now they have to defend it. The bulk of their team is back, but the question is if they can bring the same intensity. They’re the ones with the targets on their backs now. Their title defense also includes an early rematch with the one team that came closest last year to ending their Super Bowl hopes: the Los Angeles Rams.

  • THE AFC GAUNTLET

With the Chiefs looking vulnerable, the rest of the AFC is looking to claiming their spot at the top of the conference. The Ravens and Bills have languished as second best and looking to finally change their fortunes. The Houston Texans are hoping to rebound after a shaky season last year with CJ Stroud’s third year at quarterback. Let’s not count out the Cincinnati Bengals, who came awful close to a playoff spot in spite of a bad start.

And of course, the Chiefs face competition from within their own division. The Las Vegas Raiders have completely retooled and have the explosive young guns, Ashton Jeanty and Brock Bowers, to rally behind. The Denver Broncos surprised everyone last year behind rookie Bo Nix and are looking to build on that momentum. And let’s not count out the hometown Los Angeles Chargers led by one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, Justin Herbert. The AFC looks like a warzone.

  • CLASH OF THE NFC HEAVY HITTERS

I talked briefly about the Eagles being the top of the league, and that includes their conference, the NFC. Is there anyone that can challenge them? Of course, there are still several juggernauts eager to take their shot at the champs. The Detroit Lions are looking to put their playoff demons to bed and finally get to the Super Bowl. The Washington Commanders remain a threat led by reigning Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels. And there are several teams looking to bounce back this year. That includes the Jacksonville Jaguars with a now healthy Trevor Lawrence, and the Tennessee Titans with a new quarterback in rookie Cam Ward.

Another couple of contenders come from the Lions’ division. The Chicago Bears have retooled behind Caleb Williams for his second year. The Green Bay Packers are looking to move up this year (as seen by their blockbuster trade for All-Pro pass rusher Micah Parsons). The Minnesota Vikings still have top receiver Justin Jefferson. But the sneaky pick to beat the Eagles might be one the teams out west: the San Franscisco 49ers and the Los Angeles Rams. The 49ers have a relatively easy schedule as they look to put their miserable 2024 campaign behind them, and the Rams feel they can still compete with the Eagles (they did come close to beating them in the playoffs).

This season is shaping up to be full of uncertainty, and that’s why it will be an exciting one. The road to Super Bowl LX starts tonight (and, like a good Stevie Nicks song, the commercial spots are already SOLD OUT). So, grab your snacks, call dibs on your favorite spot on the couch, and make sure your TV is working. With the Eagles on top, the Chiefs looking for answers, and the rest of the league feeling rejuvenated…get ready for a crazy roller-coaster ride for the 2025 NFL season.

The season kicks off tonight with the Philadelphia Eagles against the Dallas Cowboys. Start time is 5:20 PM local time on NBC and streaming on Peacock.
