Los Angelkes, CA (The Hollywood Times) 12/19/23 – There’s a hot new spot for you to visit with contemporary art and much more, and it’s all in our backyard.
Downtown Los Angeles is the scene for “Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy,” an art show and merry-go-round/amusement park, with rides, games and attractions, all by international visionary artists such as Keith Haring, David Hockney and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Other participating visual design artists and musicians were Salvador Dali, Joseph Beuys and Miles Davis.
What happened inadvertently makes this spectacular attraction even more mind-blowing. The park’s treasures landed in Hamburg, Germany and by an odd twist fate, the parks were “sealed in 44 shipping containers and forgotten in Texas until now. It’s a mystery why the shipping containers were forgotten.
“Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy” unravels the tale of the most fantastical fairground the world has ever known: a spectacular showcase you must see to believe.
Thirty-six years ago, Austrian artist Andre Heller envisioned the world’s first art amusement park with rides, games, and attractions by visionary artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, and David Hockney. Heller scoured the world from Paris to New York City. Heller’s Dream Station installation meshes with the works of other artists and musicians. Phillip Glass composed a score to accompany Roy Lichtenstein’s Luna Luna Pavilion, the interior of which was designed by Heller. By a twist of fate, the park’s treasures were forgotten until now.

The attraction opened in mid-December, and will runs through Spring of 2024. It is at 1601 East 6th St., Los Angeles, CA 90023. The venue is wheelchair accessible.
