The Week of Mar 16 Starts Here 🌴 Gay Desert Guide & KGAY

Here’s a look at what’s happening this St. Patrick’s Day week in #ILoveGayPalmSprings.  But first, my blog:

It was a tough year of loss in Hollywood’s movie community as the In Memoriam segment played at the Oscars telecast Sunday night. We lost some true greats in 2025 from Robert Redford to Catherine O’Hara. Especially touching was the tribute to Rob Reiner by the many actors who had worked with him.

Seven decades of Reiner helping right bigoted wrongs against the LGBTQ community came to an end with his death in December. It was just prior to a scheduled appearance with wife Michele Singer Reiner, for Palm Springs Speaks.

As “Meathead”, Archie Bunker’s foil and son-in-law in All in the Family he delivered lines in defense of homophobic slurs. If that script stuck with him, we’ll never know. But the fact that Reiner was instrumental in the fight for marriage equality is not well known.

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday serve the stylish crowds at Fashion Week El Paseo, where you can catch the final 3 days of the West Coast’s largest fashion event. If your tastes lean toward the culinary, the festivities continue starting Thursday as Palm Desert Food & Wine returns with world-class chefs, premium wines, and grand tastings. For those looking for a local bite, head over to the Papa Dan’s Grand Reopening on Monday to celebrate their new space, or stop by Alice B. for the Border Grill Taco Tuesday Pop Up Series on Tuesday!

Also Tuesday, prepare to be entertained—and perhaps a bit shocked—by The Naked Magicians, an R-rated blend of magic and comedy where the performers wear nothing but a smile. The showmanship continues on Wednesday with George Wesner, the principal organist from Radio City Music Hall, who will turn a multimedia organ program into a full theatrical experience. On Friday, the sharp-witted Susan Rice takes the stage for an evening of fearless stand-up comedy. You can also enjoy the vintage pop sounds of Pink Martini from Tuesday–Friday, catch the Lesbian historical documentary Outliers and Outlaws on Friday, or indulge in the glamorous cabaret of Carole J. Bufford on Friday & Saturday.

In local theatre: You can dive into the Hollywood noir of Sunset Boulevard or experience the grit and glamour of Prohibition-era New York in Guys and Dolls. For fans of musical history, Beehive: The 1960’s Musical and the emotional opera Fellow Travelers are must-sees, alongside the interactive fun of the Grease Sing-A-Long. If you’re looking for something more contemporary, don’t miss the staged reading of The Green Room or the unique production of Camp Morning Wood.

The weekend is headlined by the Red Dress Dress Red Party, which is easily the biggest thing going on! This massive celebration on Saturday transforms the night into a sea of red for a great cause, followed by  the Red Dress Rebound Pool Party on Sunday.. If you prefer adrenaline to dancing, Boot Barn PBR brings high-octane bull riding action on Friday & Saturday. Other weekend highlights include the ONE-PS Picnic and the Palm Springs Art Festival on Saturday, the Pinkies Up Sassy Tea Party, Matthew Morrison in concert, and the Sunset Music and Education Foundation’s Constellation Awards Brunch.
