NIECY NASH-BETTS TO HOST 2024 WRITERS GUILD AWARDS LOS ANGELES CEREMONY
Presenters’ talent line-up for West Coast show announced.
Los Angeles – Emmy and NAACP Image Award-winning actress and producer Niecy Nash-Betts (Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, The Rookie: Feds) is set to host the 2024 Writers Guild Awards L.A. show on Saturday, April 14 at the Hollywood Palladium.
“I’m so excited to host this year’s Writers Guild Awards! A good writer is an actors’ greatest gift,” said Nash-Betts. “Can’t wait to celebrate their accomplishments!”
Returning L.A. Awards ceremony Executive Producer and Emmy-winning SNL writer Hugh Fink remarked: “Niecy Nash-Betts is the dream host for this year’s WGA Awards. Her brilliant performance in Dahmer – as the courageous woman who helped take down a serial killer who ate his victims – is surprisingly a lot like negotiating with the AMPTP.” Fink is joined by show producer Benn Fleishman of Avalon Harbor Entertainment.
The multi-talented Nash-Betts began acting with 1995’s Boys on the Side and spent the late 90s and early 00s in a variety of roles in film and television before becoming a household name and face for her role as Deputy Raineesha Williams on the Primetime Emmy-nominated comedy Reno 911! – a role she would bring to the big screen in 2007’s Reno 911!: Miami. From 2012-2016 she starred opposite Cedric the Entertainer as wife, mother, and beauty salon owner in the sitcom The Soul Man. Nash-Betts also joined the series Getting On, for which she earned her first two Primetime Emmy nominations.
Nash-Betts stars in Ava DuVernay’s 2024 feature film Origin, an adaptation of Isabel Wilkerson’s book, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontent. She has held leading roles in Scream Queens, Masters of Sex, and The Rookie: Feds, where she played Special Agent Simone Clark, the oldest rookie in the FBI Academy assigned to support the Los Angeles field office. In 2022, Nash-Betts and her wife, singer/songwriter Jessica Betts, made history as the first same sex couple to appear on the cover of Essence magazine – a feature story that would go on to win the 2023 GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Print Article.
In addition to acting roles, Nash-Betts is an accomplished host and presenter, having earned two Daytime Emmy nominations and the 2007 American Women in Radio Gracie Allen Award for Outstanding Program Host for her home makeover and interior design show Clean House. She was one of the co-hosts of Messiest Home, hosted the 2021 GLAAD Media Awards, and has appeared as a guest on a number of variety shows such as Dancing with the Stars, The Masked Singer, The $100,000 Pyramid, and more. She currently hosts FOX’s game show Don’t Forget the Lyrics, which recently wrapped production on its third season.
In 2017, Nash-Betts starred in the crime comedy-drama Claws, for which she won the 2018 Satellite Award for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy. Able to move effortlessly between comedy and drama, Nash-Betts was nominated for Critic’s Choice and Primetime Emmy awards for her work on 2019’s retelling of the exonerated Central Park Five When They See Us. For her performance in 2022’s Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story Nash-Betts won a Critic’s Choice Award, an NAACP Image Award, and a Primetime Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Streaming Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.

The Writers Guild Awards honor outstanding writing in film, television, new media, news (broadcast and digital), radio/audio, and promotional categories.
